penguins decline. No reason to give up a great contract on a good center.

A first and a third for just his signing rights is crazy, we have no cap either, I want to get rid of some cap to sign Piet not receive more.

Sabres pass.

Did I miss something, when did toews value become 1st round worthy?

If I’m the Penguins, I would decline also. However, GMJR seems to be a little off these days so I think this could go through.

Assuming you miss out on Pietrangelo, your only RHD is Zach Whitecloud. Tony DeAngelo, next to the right defensive partner, is a top pair defenseman. His offensive abilities and powerplay quarterback abilities are near the best amongst defenseman in the league. A 1st and 3rd is very reasonable for him, especially considering how late the 1st is.

Sabres get a solid center for a cheap amount. If they’re not willing to pay a 2nd and 4th, I’m sure some other team will, I just chose them off the top of my head.
As for Devon Toews, his analytics show that he’s been one of the best defenseman in the league these past two years. Excellent two-way impact and an overall solid top pairing LD.

That’s exactly why the islanders won’t let him go unless they get a 1st + A prospect or top line winger

yeah but with a cap situation that is not at all favorable, and other guys who Lou seems to prioritize over him (Barzal, Pulock, Brassard) getting big contracts, you might still lose him for nothing with an offersheet

It’s pretty funny that you think lou seems to prioritize brassard over toews.

The rangers just made a trade to create cap space, are the islanders not allowed to do that? The isles have multiple players they can move that have positive value in the trade market.

Toews is our PP1 QB and best offensive defenseman. He’s not going anywhere unless someone blows lou away with an offer. Let’s be real, you want to see an offersheet but realistically there are many defenseman ahead of toews that teams would offersheet. Well be lucky to see 1 OS this off season.

Lou is working on a deal with Brassard which can be expected to be around $3 million or more. He also has to find a way to get rid of major cap hits such as Ladd and Boychuck, but is trying to acquire Laine. And then, he has to try and convince Barzal to take a bridge deal. Of course an offersheet isn't that likely and the Isles will most probably find a way around this mess, but Toews is a phenomenal defenseman and is very offersheet prone, and Lou does not need to be blown away by the offer if he is forced to accept it.

Expected to be around 3 mill or more lmao. How does he go from 1 year 1.25 mill to 3 mill? The problem with fans of rival teams is you cant be objective because you state what you want to see happen, not what will actually happen.

I guess the rangers prioritize fast over deangelo because they’re working on a contract with him, right?

The islanders will not get Laine and they do not have to trade ladd or boychuk to sign toews. You seem to ignore that the isles can trade Leddy + cizikas and buyout clutterbuck to create cap space.

Brassard is projected to get 3.1 million from EvolvingHockey. A $1 million dollar salary is for 4th liners, and Brassard established himself as a solid middle 6 guy this season for the Isles. I suppose you are right that there are other options the Isles could pursue to create cap space, but it may not work out that way, and as you said, a fan of a rival team such as myself always looks at the worst possible scenario.

If brassard wants that much, he’ll have to look elsewhere. It’s well known lou lamoriello prioritizes defense over offense. If brassard takes a 1 year 1 mill dollar deal, he’ll be re-signed. With the amount of players not receiving QO, there will not be any team that will give brassard north of 1.5 mill.

I highly doubt that. A guy that scored 32 points in 66 games on a defense-first team will most definitely get a deal north of $1.5 million.

If brassard wants more than 1.5 mill, he won’t get it from the isles.

EH projected Simmonds to get 3.5 mill x 3. Do you really think a team is going to give him that? The two teams that have spoken with him are Toronto and calgary.

Simmonds isn't worth 3.5 mil at all, he was terrible last season on a 5 million dollar deal. Brassard on the other hand had a solid season and can be a very good 3rd line center for teams, and the price for that is around 3 million imo.

Brassard was awful at center this season - most of the time he played wing where he was actually productive. He was so bad as a center that the isles put bailey at 3C when he hasn’t played C since his junior days.

The isles writer for the athletic said that the isles won’t sign brassard if it’s more than the 1 yr 1.25 mill deal he signed last offseason

Interesting, I had no idea. I'd still see him getting more than 1.25 but probably not by as much as I previously said.

Ik Lou wouldn't trade with a rival, but I so wish Gorton offered a 1st because this guy is worth it.

Yeah , toews is great. I actually don’t mind him going to the avs, one of the few teams I have nothing against.
