Imagine Las Vegas doesn't want Kreiders long term contract any more than the Rangers do.

I hear what you're saying but many GMs would love Kreider. He's captain material, a gym rat, a freak of nature and with his speed, he'll age well. Four years then it becomes a mntc and when you think about it, he's much more of a presence than say... a young hyped up floater like Keller @7.4m. If it wasn't for cap & Laff we'd certainly want to keep him, and like you say, we might have to due to flat cap.

I think of Kreider and Muzzin who signed extensions before the long term effects of Covid were known...and the new flat cap. Before the signings, the league had announced a 84 to 88m cap for 2021/22. Can't imagine Kreider or Muzzin getting as much in the contracts if they had waited. Think there are gonna be a lot of disappointed UFAs, who are going to get less money and certainly less offers than what they expecting pre Covid.

I originally traded him instead of Lias but we need a warm body to expose.

I don’t see either of those contracts being much different today. There aren’t very many players in the league that fill their shoes or do what they do. I’m not saying they are complete unicorns so to speak but who else in the league plays just like Kreider or resembles him? How many D in the league play like Muzzin and bring what he does to his blue line. If the dollars are different it’s by 500K at best. Rangers are in a position where we never anticipated 1OA so it’s obviously a good problem to have and we have the cap space for the next few years anyways.

Yea getting the # 1 pick is like found money (cap). Even with bonuses you get 3 years of a good player for 2m. I don't see Kreider enough to really know if he worthy of his contract...but few teams can probably fit him in their cap without sending similar back to the Rangers, which is issue in most trades. Muzzin unfortunately had two LTIRs last season and no doubt was the Leafs best Dman when he played.

Both contracts are accurate even today. Other teams having cap space is the only issue. But we should have the room for 4 years when he becomes MNTC and if the cap goes up we don’t care anyway. It’s all a moot conversation at that point. Muzzin at his contract is perfect even with the flat cap

Of ALL the teams you want to dump Krieder on, you choose the one that doesn't need a winger and needs cap relief...
