I'd guess they're trying to trade his rights but if it doesn't happen they may just let him walk. I mean within the next few seasons the Rangers will have to pay Lafreniere, Kakko, Chytil, Fox, and Deangelo (this year of course but still)... That's an expensive group of players.

yea but we need a center. They have been talking short term deals with him. Wouldn't they just qualify him just in case instead of letting him walk for nothing.

Because what us NYR have been doing for quite some time now (moving him) is a good decision. He just takes offensive responsibilities from Chytil, which isn't good for his development. He's got a really good 2nd line potential, such a potential needs to be developed.

I completely understand letting him go but I hope they qualify him and then trade his rights. I dont want to let him go for nothing. there is value there.

A player like Cirelli/Danault (even if Danault's age scares me a bit, considering he's only a year younger than Mika) would be much better, they are much, much better 2 way players than RS.

Strome would do great in a team like SJ/MIN, where he has players to pass the puck to (he makes very good passes). In MIN I'm thinking about Fiala/Parise while SJ has Meier, Kane and Labanc

completely agree. I guess we will see what happens. Hopefully we buff up on center depth though. would love to add a guy like Cirelli.

Don’t forget they have until Wednesday to extend a QO. Probably still trying to trade him but it’s unlikely they let him walk.

thats what I am thinking. it would be stupid not to qualify him though.

I guess it's because of his arbitration rights. Can't walk away if the arbitrator gives him less than $4.538M so if you're comfortable with that, okay. It's up to NYR's front office now

Can a player be moved without a QO?

I saw Larry Brooks on NY Post saying it is Tuesday and that was the tentative date by the NHL/NHLPA in the MOU back in July; asked CapFriendly on Twitter, they confirmed me it's actually Wednesday.

I think they'll give Chytil the 2nd line job and fill the 3C position externally. If they qualify him then they're stuck with having to sign him or trade him

teams can't walk away from deals awarded under 4.5mil ish. so if they qualify him he will be eligible for arbitration. the rangers might not want to be stuck with people him 4.5 for 1 season. which would shock me cause that would be a fair deal for him. idk, its confusing to me lol.

the team doesn't have a 3c in the system yet. baron might be a good 3c in the future but we haven't seen him play pro yet.
