Matthews is unmoveable.

not because of contract or play.

but because it makes no sense for either team

NY or any other team looking to acquire him to improve, want to keep their existing roster in place and get better by adding a 1C, the problem is, Toronto wants to compete, so they want legit pieces in return, but the team trying to acquire Matthews also wants to compete, and would rather trade futures.

NY is arguably worse with Matthews than without Matthews from this trade.

Trading Matthews is basically a paradox, because there is absolutely nothing we could get for him that would improve the team. He's arguably a top 5 centre, took some huge defensive/physical steps this year, looks to be a 50 goal scoring franchise dude etc. etc.

If a team ever did give us enough stuff (somehow) that equalled that value and potential, they'd be way worse, so they'd rather just not trade for him.

I honestly don't hate it. Probably wouldn't do it because of Matthews contract.

I got an infraction on here by saying "i love matthews but rangers decline". Told me to give more constructive feedback. Here's my feedback... Having a civil discussion about players should not be an infraction so do your job better @capfriendly

There's some "constructive" criticism for ya

Meanwhile, Zibanejad makes about half and put up 41 goals in 57 games, a better pace than matthews this year. I’m not saying Zibanejad is better than matthews, I’m pointing out that trading him with fox and kakko is ridiculous

exactly. No reason for NYR to give up a guy who knows their system etc., he's already there, he's at half the value and he literally produces nearly as much as matthews anyways
