Ya I’ve accepted that possibility second he got sent to jersey. Once contract is up flames would be high on his list. However I wouldn’t completely rule out him returning to Edmonton on a short term deal. Not suggesting I think it will happen just see a series of events that can allow it.

We lose that Gaudreau trade. Eberle is a solid winger, but not nearly as dynamic at Gaudreau. Bellows is a good strat but Mayfield just doesn't do it IMO, instead of Mayfied it should be a 1st or Wilde and a 2nd

Why does everyone think Johnny is only worth peanuts, the dude had a 99 pt season a year ago. If this trade went through it would be bad for Cgy not you guys.

I'm a Flames fan.

And I wouldn't call Eberle, Bellows and a 1st or Eberle, Bellows, Wilde and a 2nd peanuts. I'm not sold on Mayfield looking as good outside of a Trotz system, that is why I removed him and added another high pick/prospect. I will admit, even the packages I suggested should be fairly easily beat, but teams are unlikely to give up too many of their top futures assets. Bellows and WIlde are two of their best prospects and Dobson is their Valimaki, so that is a non-starter.

I feel like if we move Gaudreau it will be to Buffalo or New Jersey, for a package like; a 1st (7/8), Ristolainen/Reinhart/Palmieri, 2021 2nd.

Not going to lie that was kind of the driving force of the trade.

The thing is this, Johnny has 2 yrs left. Eberle has three at less of a cap hit. IMO Johnny is not staying in Calgary after this contract. People want a right shot RW which Eberle is. The other two were added to top it up. I was trying not to be greedy with the return.

I'm not saying it was god awful or anything, as you know, I don't mince words when I do, lol. A few things though....

1) While Eberle might have a lower cap hit, it is only 750k lower and che is very clearly the inferior player. And Mayfield being involved actually has us eating cap.
2) Will Mayfield be remotely the same player away from Trotz?
3) Now is the time to be greedy. Gaudreau has 2 years left and that is a ton of time, he's in his prime and signed to a sweetheart of a deal during a time when teams have no gate revenue.

In retrospect, my counter offer is no better than your suggestion.

We should target New Jersey for #7 , Palmieri and a 2nd in 2021. If they balk at #7, we ask for #18 , Ty Smith, Palmieri, and a 2nd in 2021

I find in the era of text if you aren't blunt and straightforward there will be miscommunication., We can't have people thinking there ideas that even Milbury would turn down are good can we?
