If the Leafs never signed JT91

Description
I'm a Habs fan, and was looking into the Leafs cap situation for this offseason (they're totally ****ed). It got me wondering what the Leafs would look like if they had never signed Tavares. For starters, Kadri probably wouldn't have been traded hence the trade with the Avs.

MIN Trade: Minnesota gets a top 6 player (they can use him as a centre) and a desperately needed pick to get some more youth into the organization. Toronto finally gets a top 4 RHD who can play most situations and eat minutes.
MTL Trade: Leafs fill the Nylander gap by trading for Domi, who I'm banking would take a hometown discount to play for a team that means so much to him. Habs get a goalscorer on an ELC in return, and flip a 2nd for a 1st to make up in the value difference between Domi and Robertson.
VGK Trade: Toronto gets much needed toughness and size to fill out the bottom 6 (although Reeves is kinda weak on the 3rd line), and he'll fit in great. Vegas gets much needed cap space. The pick is a 2nd bc for some reason teams love giving out high picks for Reeves.
BOS Trade: Not really sure if this trade makes sense for the Bruins. Leafs flip a LHD that they don't need (they have Reilly, Muzzin and Sandin on that side) for another RHD (and a big one at that) and another bottom 6 player who'll provide grit.

Leafs still end up with basically nothing in cap space, but at least now their roster has depth, size and toughness. As much as I'm all for speed and skill, the last two cup wins have shown that you need a lot of grit to win too. Moral of the story: don't hand out blank cheques to relatively unproven 21 year olds.

In your explanation you state Minnesota gets the pick, in the deal, Toronto gets the pick, which is it?

No thanks on Domi, I'd love him but for a prospect like Robertson and 15 in a deep draft? Yeah, no.

Bruins would never do that.

A second for Reaves? Rather bring Matt Martin back.

Nylander isnt going to be traded with JT here, let alone without him here.

- My thinking is that the Leafs don't have time to wait for prospects to develop, as the 15th overall pick would likely take 2 maybe even 3 years. They need quality NHLers on the ice, now. Plus the Leafs get a relatively high 2nd back.
- I literally said in the explanation that I'm not sure if the Bruins do it, the only way I can see it is it it's to retain Krug.
- If Leafs fans want to start contending, they're going to face the reality of the prices that contenders pay. Tampa gave up two 1sts for Coleman and Goodrow. If I feel like Reeves is the right fit in Toronto, and I do, then I'd be willing to give up a 2nd if it helped the team win at least 4 playoff games.
- I've never been high on Nylander, and would be totally happy seeing him get traded. If it brings in a guy like Dumba, then the Leafs should strongly consider it (Tavares or no Tavares)

Leafs didn’t trade Kadri because they signed Tavares they traded him because he didn’t learn the first time getting suspended in the playoffs. They had to make a point even though it was a mistake and they sorely missed him. Also the deal sent kerfoot the other way so having both kerfoot and kadri doesn’t make sense in that regard.

That sentence is just, wow. You’re “not really sure if this trade makes sense for the bruins?” How sure would you be if someone offered up a 3rd rounder for Matthews? That might be the most lopsided trade i’ve ever seen on this site.

so first off. if JT hadnt signed in Toronto he was signing in SJS (would have screwed their cap situation even more...) or he would have signed in boston and boston would have traded krejci. not sure why you have him traded to colorado unless you are just doing that to get kadri back.

Second. carlo is a better dman than dermott. and kuraly provides more value to us than a future 3rd would thats a pass.
