Anaheim trade is pretty ehhhh. I think Rakell's a little overvalued personally. I'd rather keep Nylander and Lijegren. Additionally, Rossi won't be NHL ready for a season or two. Throwing him onto the second line is a terrible idea. Not a great trade for either team given their circumstances; Anaheim gets more out of their first than Nylander and Lije, Toronto gets more out of Nylander and Lijle than a prospect and Rakell.

sure why not with the Florida trade. Sandin is likely the only player on Toronto they'd accept.

It's a buyers market for goaltenders and Andersen is coming off a lackluster year. Not many would give up a first for him. Additionally, you went ahead and wasted it on Josh Anderson, also coming off a lackluster year (edit: looked at his stats and lackluster is putting it nicely.)

Crawford will re-up in Chicago for less.

I personally think Rossi is ready. I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people. This team is about as packed with skill as you can get it. Managed to add size too. All at a price, but the depth here is undeniable.

He's not top 6 ready on a team trying to contend. That's exactly how you mess up a prospect.

He’s insulated pretty well on that line. I think he’s a superstar man, but even if you take him off the team and slide guys up, it’s still pretty stacked.

If you're correct about him, it's all the more likely Anaheim picks Rossi instead of trading the pick.

Columbus would probably accept but his qualifying offer starts at 2 mil. And he has arbitration rights too.

Don't rush and ruin Rossi. Look at what happened with Kotkiniemi in Montreal. I would rather have him in junior for another year to work on his game.

Also, the sens don't have any need for Andersen. I think they use that pick to possibly trade up with one of their 2nd rounders.

Don't see Florida making that trade.

Too much for Anderson he is a 3rd liner at best. I would do Johnsson straight up for him but not much more

Good start on the Florida trade but the Leafs still need to add

I don’t think he has anything to prove down there. He lit the league up, he already plays a complete two-way game, and he’ll be around 180 lbs when the season starts. If his skating improved even marginally I think he’s perfectly capable of grabbing a spot right out of camp.

Honestly I think with the 6th pick (if they got it from Anaheim), they go defense and look at someone like Jake Sanderson, or if they are dedicated to the offensive player, Dubas looks at guys like Lucas Raymond or Cole Perfetti before he goes at Rossi. Not saying Rossi isn't a good prospect, but I think those 3 are a little better tbh.

I guess signing 3 RFAs and a UFA to big big money wasn't aggressive enough

What's the rationale for only signing Dermott to his qualifying offer but giving Mikheyev a huge raise? I'm perplexed by how everyone values these two. I've seen anywhere from their qualifying offer to multiple years at 2.5M for either. I would think that Dermott would be valued higher and has a greater sample size. Mikheyev looked real good for a period of time but in a cap strapped year with a lot of uncertainty of how players will be valued given the market conditions, wouldn't it be a better approach to offer them both their qualifying offers and tell them to prove themselves this year?

Dermott and Mikheyev contracts have been all over the place here. Sometimes they get under a million, sometimes their getting close to 3 million each.

Mikheyev might get more than Dermott when it's all said in done, I think some teams will see value in OS'ing him.

Yeah fair point about the offer sheet. I think from a cap perspective though, the Leafs are better off to let him walk if it doesn't help their cap hit. It could be attractive for Mikheyev to stay cheaper and get to play with Tavares. Although hard for a young player to turn down more money if other teams are interested.

Ya here I have him signing his QO. No arbitration rights and incentive with high escrow. If he wants to be a Leaf he signs.

I think top 6 on the wing is more likely than centre personally. Less responsibility.
