Two way deal means nothing about waivers, it mean that he gets paid differently whether he is in the AHL or NHL

I think it opens up the *possibility* that we see Leddy (or...Toews?) moved soon. Thought for sure Aho was going back to Sweden. He must have gotten some assurances.

It’s going to be Leddy.

Aho is an NHL caliber player. Maybe he’s used in a trade or it’s possible he’s given an opportunity to prove himself. He’s Very good defensively

I love the move as well. Honestly, I'd rather go with him and Mayfield on the bottom pair, let Greene walk and see if Dobson can handle second pairing minutes.

Lol he can't play second pairing minutes right now. But I do think he has NHL potential.

He played on the 2nd pairing during the 17-18 season and was by far their best defensive defenseman. That's a 22 game sample size. Aho is 24 YO, hes not a kid.

It's mobile and quick, but can also shut offenses down with physicality and smart defense. Aho at under $1 million for the next two seasons is a huge value add if he can play in the top 6.

That’s what staple thought, but why would he? Many scouts think he should have been in the NHL last year. If the isles don’t give him a shot, other teams will.

Mayfield would be the worst defensive player in that top 6, which is funny because he’s a negative offensively.

Worse than Aho, really? Thought he was more of an offense guy? I don't follow Bridgeport at all so idk

Aho is only 5’11 but his skating and high end hockey IQ is the reason why he’s solid defensively.

I’ll take a 5’9 D with high IQ and skating over a 6’5 Dman with mediocre IQ

Some of the best defensive defenseman in the league are small - spurgeon, Ellis etc...

He's obviously in a log jam with the isles in LHD. I like his game, hope they can make room for him somehow.

Assuming they trade Leddy , they don’t really have any LHD in the system that can fight for a spot in next 2 years besides Aho.

For sure. Like I said, I'm not too familiar with a lot of the Islanders' prospects (besides the big guys obviously). Just didn't know he was held in such high regard, it's good to hear

Not sure if you’re into advanced stats, but this is a good write up on Aho’s 22 games with the isles - Video breakdown as well.

There's A LOT to like there. Can't believe it's been two whole seasons since he got a sniff at the NHL. He's probably gotten better since 2018 too. If/when Leddy is moved, that's the guy I want replacing him. Might even be better than Leddy right now too

Yeah it’s really bothered me that he hasn’t gotten another shot lol - he’s going to be 25 in February!
