I think its a bit under Johnny's value but I didn't want to take much salary back to free up space for pietrangelo

Johnny had only two years left one of which will probably be a half year, and not many teams in position for the contract which I needed to get rid of to bring Alex in the fold.

Even so, Hall/Stone/Pacciorretty and others on expiring contracts returned more. Johnny doesnt impact the game like those guys but outproduces them. 2 years of Gaudreau with a strong chance of re-signing in NJ is worth more than this.

I will even add Johnny's AAV is excellent for his level of production. One of the best in the league. He's not a guy you need to take a discount to move.
