Don't see what he's done to earn this but maybe the sabres know/see something we don't

This is roughly the same as Troy Terry got - and IDK... Thompson has about the same potential, but has yet to crack the roster full time.

This one confuses me, but suggests they are finally ready to give him a larger role. Could look good in the final two years. As of now, I think it could have been a bit lower.

Very risky signing. He is injury prone and hasn't shown anything at the NHL level. I was expecting something like 1 year, 900k (prove it type of deal).

he became 6'6?

basically what it boils down too.
His injury issues though. Not a good sign for a tall guy.

Overpaid now but low risk, high reward I see as a win for the Sabres. As mentioned above, very similar to Troy Terry's deal.

Not the worst deal of the day (DD to SJS), but certainly seems a little pricey. I haven't seen anything to think he';s on the verge of a breakout season. He's 22 and he's often hurt.

I've seen some real skill with him but at the same time he get injured I think he could have had 20-30 pts last year without the injury.

I don't know what anyone is complaining about. TT is young and had injuries. If he comes back and plays as well as he did last year, It's a good deal. If he struggles? His cap hit is around $300K in the AHL.

It's more than he should've gotten, but the contract will not hurt the Sabres' cap situation. Still, given how Thompson's development has gone, a one-year "prove it" deal would've been much more suitable.

I would've been more of a fan of a 1 year, 900-1 mil contract. That being said, if TT can even get 20-25 points on a 4th line, a cap hit of 1.4 mil is a great contract. If he can grow into a 3rd line RW or even perform good enough to play top 6 then its a steal of a contract. Kevyn Adams makes a sneaky move here, if he isn't panning out we can bury him, buy him out, trade him, or expose him to Seattle. No risk involved here

I don't know why he deserves this contract and I think he could be replaced for nearly league minimum, it's not like Buffalo needs to watch where they spend, but it's a bad contract.
