The trade is two proven players who average around 40 points during a full season who are signed on multi year deals for low 1st round picks and cap space... your right nj should add more.

Instead get mid level players that can easily be found in free agency or cheaper trades

look at some previous drafts who was taken in those spots more than worth holding onto the picks

Capspace is at a premium, and we could get way more. We'd rather save roster spots for prospects. Devils decline easily :-)

Also Kerfoot didn't want to come to NJD after we drafted him, so why would we want him??

Good luck with that. No chance the devils do that. Even one first rounder for both of those. Even if you add a second to both of those for one pick the devils still decline. Quite easily actually.
