SENS building a powerhouse future

Description
Hey nowww,

The idea here is to spend whatever picks/non high end prospects it takes to acquire two more picks at the top of this draft. Everything except high end prospects and the 1st rounders the next 2 seasons are ammunition to make this happen. They can also take on bad deals to relieve teams of very valuable cap space.

With the four picks they take at #3 Stuetzle, #5 Drysdale/Perfetti/Rossi, #6 Perfetti/Rossi, #9 Askarov. Add in the likely high first rounders the next 2 seasons and this sets the sens up for an long absolute powerhouse run in a few years time.

Anaheim laugh Those 3 2nds in noway shape or form move you up 22 spots not even remotely close to fair for Anaheim, And Minnesota declines as well. You're really overvaluing the value of 2nd round picks.

Wild do NOT trade the #9 overall pick unless we get another first round pick in return or the deal is so good we absolutely can't pass on that. And four 2nd rounders is not that.

Hey nowww, EccE. Thanks for posting. What would you deem "so good we absolutely can't pass on that."? Say they are able to relieve a bunch of cap pressure and pay the picks. They are in a place where they can get teams out of bad deals as long as they are off the books in three/four years time. Love to get an in depth take from a Minny fan.

They aren't scraps, they are valuable picks and the sens can provide much needed cap relief by taking on bad contracts as well.

Wild don't really need cap relief, as we have a lot of space already. If we are going to trade the #9 overall pick it will have to provide us our greatest need: a number one center. We are most likely using that pick to acquire a center anyway. I don't think Ottawa has a number one C right now, so the deal is not going to work.

Ah ok makes sense. Thanks for the insider take! This idea isn't about the wild or ducks specifically so its cool to knock the wild out of the picture with your added info.

For top 10 picks? Yeah, that's nothing.

But to try and illustrate my point here, would you accept a similar (slightly more valuable) offer for any of your top picks? If your answer is not immediately yes, then you should see why these are hilariously bad

The problem with pick swaps is that, the more picks you have to include to be fair, the less fair they are. The first trade, with Anaheim, the values going to Anaheim are higher than going to Ottawa, but it's like trading four middle6 guys for a top6 guy, it's quantity for quality. Does Anaheim need to restock their farm system? This is Ottawa offering to Anaheim, they have to make Anaheim interested. A fair trade doesn't mean it makes sense. Does Ottawa really want another top10 pick? Want it enough to overpay for it? Dorion was trying to trade the 5th pick.

Pick swaps are tough, but fun to think about.

Edit: Yes I read the description

Hey nowww Sensible, thanks for chiming in. Good points here. I strongly believe dorion should be wanting another top 10 pick. These are difference makers potentially and now's the time to swing for the fences on building a world class core. Gonna post another slightly different idea shortly and look forward to your take on it.
