IF Lehtonen can plat at a top 4 level, I think this is a very solid team IMO.

But I think Gudas and Simmonds are likely coming to TOR...

I don't have a problem trading Pinto, but his value might not be fully apparent. Pinto's going to be a decent, middle6 centre, but it's his value as a salary replacement when he finally arrives in Ottawa that might not be apparent. When Pinto arrives, Ottawa might have cap issues, and Pinto can replace a higher cap centre.

The 28th & 33rd picks are worth about the 12th overall pick

Denis Malgin adds no value to this trade, and actually makes it worse for both sides., Toronto prefers to keep him to help with the cap, and Ottawa doesn't want him.

So removing Malgin, and swapping #28 & #33 for #15, Toronto needs to add to the trade.

Instead you want a top 100 NHL prospect (until 7PM tonight) and you want to dump Andreas Johnsson, who Ottawa really doesn't want even if you added more because of his contract structure.

This is an easy no

Nice analysis. I was about to make the same comment about Pinto and Malgin. I could see the pick swap happening (or at least something close) unless Toronto really likes somebody at #15.

OP probably needs to move Kerfoot to make this lineup work. Larsson is a solid replacement.

Thanks for the comment, what is your thinking on it being worth the 12th overall?

I don't mind Gudas for around 1.5M, but he will get overpaid by someone. I really hope Simmonds doesn't come to TO.

Pinto does not have more value then 15OA in a very deep draft year.

It’s basically the draft pick value chart evaluation. It’s from 2011, but still very relevant. Ignore the columns being grouped by 30 picks, the 31 pick has the same value regardless of which column it’s in. It’s only people that downgrade a 2nd pick because it’s called a second pick. Pick 31 is still pick 31 whether there’s 10 teams, or 50 teams.

He’s the table in a TML blog
https://theleafsnation.com/2016/05/01/is-it-worth-it-to-trade-up-in-the-nhl-draft/

2nd Edit: the chart is best used for, 2 for 2 draft pick swaps, and not bad for, 2 for 1 draft pick swaps. Once you get into 3 for 1, the values don’t work as well because a bunch of low picks isn’t worth a high pick.

According to who? I have never seen him ranked that high by anyone. He might be the 10th best prospect prospect on Ottawa not the league
