Hawks already checked on Murray and couldn’t agree to a contract. I don’t think they want to trade Nylander either, as much as some Hawks fans want them to.

I'd love to move Nylander. But I'd be very disappointed if it ends up being Matt Murray. Lehner is better and cost $5M.

Moving him has to make sense, if you love him or hate him. Trading him for an RFA Goalie that you already checked in on, and couldn’t meet the contract demands of, does not qualify.

I agree. Best spot for Murray is file for arb. Then settle for slightly less on a 1year deal with PIT and become a UFA. Next years goalie market should be better where he can make more.

I agree, but I think PIT will trade him for even a mid round pick before they go to Arb.

nope they won't. And he won't sign a 1 year deal. They got cap.
They can pay him almost 4.5 mil if need be and be fine.
They will send him off to Seattle next year.

There are expected to be a lot of back to back games this season, if it takes place. High risk of infection etc... means players could miss time. Having a 1A and 2A in net is fine.
Too many people assume he's already gone.
They fixed their cap issues buying out JJ.

They won't trade him unless they get what they want. It's not even an argument.
Teams are in need of goaltending. The penguins are not in need to move Murray.
They got 1 roster spot that needs filled. 3C. And there are cheap options. Wennberg being bought out is an example of that.
Moving Murray is not nearly as much as a concern as Chicago finding a goaltender.

It's possible, but I think they'll keep him for 1 year rather than getting a 3rd. They do after all want to win the Cup Next year and he could be really handy for that. I do think JR wants a decent return, but I wouldn't give him too much unless there's a 5 year $4M contract Murray's willing to accept...and even then I wouldn't give him a 1st rounder. For the record, I would NOT accept that contract if I were Murray. File for arbitration on October 10th....4 days away. Settle for slightly less than arb and make it a 1 year deal... Become a UFA next year. He'll get more money that way and PIT can keep him for ~$5M next year after Murray settles.

It Pit thinks they are getting a 1st rounder or equal value then good luck with an arbitration eligible goalie. Can he fetch a 2nd? I think so, but again, teams are going to talk to Murray before hand and if it doesn't work (Chicago as an example) then teams will quickly back off. Murray needs to develop consistency, he's not ready for a huge payday and after Lehner, a heck of a better goalie, just agreed to $5M x 5, Murray is going to have a hard time getting that kind of a deal and Pit will have a hard time moving him as such. Best scenario is for Pit to let him go to arbitration and keep him for a year i have a feeling.

You?
I mean maybe if you did you'd realize there are a bunch of names of people who are 34+ years old.
Go count the goalies on there under 30

And every one of those goalies put up better stats than Murray who was worse statistically than 58 goalies who played this year...

The 1st half of the year Murray was one of the most dominate goalies in the league.
The 2nd half...He had Jack Johnson as his 1LD......maybe you can figure it out.
He the same guy that was 7th in save% the year prior with a stellar defense of Jack Johnson, Eric Gudbranson and Justin Schultz.

Let me know how those other 58 goalies would have done with that defense.

I agree. I'd even entertain getting Fleury for 50% retention.

First 20 games .897 sv%.... You can make up excuses all you want but 1: Jarry completely smoked Murray in every metric, 2: Pit was top 5 in every defensive category, shots against, high danger chances agaisnt, xGA, etc

As part of a Nylander trade? If so, you’re trolling me tears of joy

No, I mean instead of trading major assets, Fleury can be obtained at 50% retention for practically nothing. Keep Nylander.
