Well this makes the Edmundson trade look like a steal.

Soucy + Edmundson + Dillon

Guess NHL teams should stay away from signing middle pairing defenders this year

A bit overpaid but no NTC of any kind.

that's a player that could have gotten 3.5m with a 10 team M-NTC. I'd have prefered this option if I were the caps

How is 3.9 on a 2nd pair defense man an over payment?
The going rate there is roughly 4-4.5
If anything he took a slight discount because well, flat cap etc... bs.

It's a fair deal, good deal for WSH.
They may have bought 1 year too much, but it only runs till 34. Dillons got size so he will probably be decent until he's 34.

I remember that I always used to say that SJ should've bought Dillon out after the 2016 Cup Finals. Guess I was very wrong...

Dilly is a super strong dman and has earned this deal. Glad he got it. He was excellent as EK65's partner and is very versatile.

Too much money for a 3rd pairing defenceman; even if he's a very good one.

The contract is fair. I'm just not sure about the chemistry on the Caps blue line. Maybe Orlov needs to be traded.

Maybe with all those defenseman signings the average CapFriendly Joe will understand that the market for them is on the rise and that's why we're seeing these numbers.

All these people saying this is an overpayment are absolutely clueless. Dillon is a top 4 guy. If someone goes down injured he can step up and play top minutes against teams best players. He’s a shut down D man. He could’ve easily gotten 4.5-5 in the open market on a crap rebuilder team. I keep coming across idiots that still think the year is 2010 and the cap is back at 60M. Get with the times.. do some research before you comment idiotic crap.

This sums up how clueless people are here. Look at his stats, the advanced ones. He's extremely reliable on own end and very much durable second pairing d-man. Given the fact that Jensen and Kempny are locked in extremely cheaö contracts giving Dillon 3.9M is far from a bad signing.
