BOWMAN IS A MORON

How do you not trade down at least 5 spots if not 10 if that's your pick? Passing on Mercer, Lapierre, Perreault, Zary....trade down Bowman, could have grabbed Riechel around 22 or even 27.

I know McKenzie and Pronman had him at #20, but the rest of the industry had Reichel between #24-#38. Reach?

One of the best in the draft at generating high danger chances and he played against fully grown men. Good pick

The player I wished the Oilers would have gotten but I knew they wouldn’t take him at 14.

Like the player, draft position was “high”, but this year is so deep and there’s so many players teams don’t want to trade down in case their guy gets taken. Not a bad pick at all.

I knew Reichel would go between 17-20 . His numbers in Germany were really good.

Same reactions when Hawks took Dach at 3 and look how that turned out.. can't wait to see all the Hawks "fans" that hate on him and when he excels at the NHL level turn around and say "they knew he would be good" 😂

Think hawks are looking for a 2 way winger to compliment dach a la saad-toews. I dont know enough about him outside of highlight videos I just watched but the kelley and bowman have to be super high on him to "reach" for him at 17. The euro scouting dept has knocked it out of the park recently so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt

I’ll just put it this way: I was very much pushing for Mercer, but reichel isn’t the worst pick. Good two way winger that was good in Germany, albeit, remember everyone, Germany isn’t the greatest league in Europe by any stretch.

HOWEVER, a huge negative I witnessed in game film was his ceiling. No, I do not think he will be a top line winger at all. However, a middle six winger, absolutely. His ceiling is far lower than Mercer at this moment, but I can tell you stan was very nervous about the injury history of lapierre and Mercer.

All in all, I’m left a little frustrated by this pick, as I would have gladly taken Holloway over him, and I wasn’t high on Holloway honestly. Reichel’s comparison is Vlad nemestnikov. Not nearly good enough for 17 OA. He’s a competitor, but I don’t know if he’s the top six guy we needed so dearly. It’s gonna take time to develop and see where he ends up.

Blows my mind how Stan didn't trade down. Stan is so conservative like he's fighting for his job. Had a chance for a top 6 and we likely get a 3rd liner. Given the way he waits in FA or TDL and never trades on draft day, starting to get the feeling other GMs aren't interested in dealing with a guy who's scared to make a move. Like the hot chick in high school that you wanted to take to the prom but knew she only gave a kiss at the end of the night so went to the next best option. Conservative doesn't win cups as Talon should have taught him.

You said it pretty well right there, the Rangers trading up was something that was actually offered, and Stan turned it down. But then again, you didn’t hear that from me.

I dont necessarily disagree, but with the disorder of the draft with guys rising and falling left and right, you never know. People were saying the same about Dach last year. obviously its a different scenario but I really like the pick. He turned it on at the U20 a few weeks ago and looked stellar in a game that Stutzle didnt shine as much. I like the pick, even if it was a reach by about 5 guys. I have full confidence in Mark Kelley picking his guy. I think Mercer was the only other true lock there. I think Lapierre is a risky pick for a team that needs guys to stick, and if Perrault and Zary went a bit lower, clearly other teams felt the same about them as we did. Idk. whole thing is a crapshoot outside of top 5

Very fair perspective and not wrong. I think outside of the top 12 it became a total crap shoot.

It could have been a lot worse. My short list at 17 based off of who was there was Mercer, Lapierre, and Reichel, but by no means am I mad about it. We couldve been the Blue Jackets, picking a guy who mightve fallen to the 7th round, instead of a guy who probably couldve gone 8 picks later. From what I've seen, hes got the tools, and hes got an above average shot. If hes given time to put it together, I have faith he can be a 2nd line guy.

I don't know what I would have done. Imagine though having had the 9th pick and grabbing Rossi!

First of all, Reichel could have been gone by 22 and most def be gone by 27, but also no one is going to give you anything good to go from 22 to 17. This is deep year, but still those kids have about 20% chance to become NHLs, so its not worth it the risk at this stage, you might as well draft someone good in 3rd or 4th round, so no one will give those up.
Plus, Reichel has a big potential to actually play this year, at least on a limited basis. He has great work ethics and he did play with grown man in Germany and played well against them.
How many #17 picks are ready to play? I think Hawks are truly need some ready to play guys, as Toews and Kane's time is running out. I don't know maybe we will see Reichel-Kurashev-Highmore (not bad for 4th line to start the year)

Having the pick between Rossi and Perfetti wouldve been nuts. At that point I wouldnt even get mad no matter who we picked. I've come to stop doubting Kelley. In 2017 I was mad we picked Joki over Tolvanen, in 2018 I was mad we picked Boqvist over Bouchard, last year I was mad about Dach over Turcotte. Thats why I am a fan and not a scout lol
