Amirov is better. You need D now, not 3 years from now when whichever D you couldve drafted at 15 will be ready. Leafs are better off trading for or signing a D and taking BPA, which they did

honestly Amirov was a very good choice. Yes I was preaching Schneider but realistically all these defenseman but Sanderson and Drysdale will need 3-5 years. We dont got time to wait. Dubas chose a guy with enormous potential and plays a solid 2-way game and in 3-5 years were gonna need wings.

And for people crying about toughness and defense oct 9 is free agency we can add some tough players and a top 4 RHD or two.

People don’t understand drafting. Leafs have picked Two Dmen with their last two first round picks. We don’t need a Dman in 3-4years.

I was a little underwhelmed with the pick but I will defer to the scouting staff. They clearly know more about this kid than me.

thank you, some people just dont get it. Yes I vouched for Schneider but realistically when is he gonna be ready, 2023 maybe. We dont got time for that.

Oct9 is free agency and Dubas based on reports is interested in Gudas + one of Hamonic or Demelo. Lets see what he does.

Think Amirov was your best bet by that point. I dig that choice.

Guhle won’t be ready for at least two years and by then the leafs will have adressed their defence, the leafs have taken defensemen in the past two drafts and it doesn’t make sense to go for another defensemen when Amirov has top line upside compared to Guhle being a 3rd or 4th D at best

Yep cause this guys got enormous potential. Develop him properly and put him with Matthews or Tavares and man could be a 50point winger.

Good luck trying to get that through the thick skulls of the mob of toothless yokels carrying pitch forks and torches to Dubas’ house.

50 point is an understatement with those guys if the guy is developed properly.

At least considering your positional depth, there's no need to hurry the guy in.

exactly, a good development plan is let him play in the KHL

than in 2021 let him be with the marlies.

Amirov is a high end skater and great 2 way player who is already playing against men in the KHL who projects to be fighting for an NHL job next season (21-22)
that's why

I think there's perhaps a question of why draft Amirov instead of trading the pick for immediate Blueline help, but I don't necessarily take issue with drafting the guy you think is the most skilled forward available instead of a Dman. All the Dman left were somewhat of a reach there anyway, imo.

All depends on what kind of deals were out there. I'm sure they seriously considered trading the pick for immediate help, but there are a good number of potential options in this FA class and it's not like they can't make trades from this point on.

That was a good decision, even though I value Guhle highly and would have been pleased with having him on the team.

The 14 best players were selected 1 to 14, which almost never happens. Dubas took the player with the highest ceiling at #15. This is what you have to do in the first round: swinging for the fences.

You miss trading second round picks for 4 C’s? Since Kyle Dubas has been in charge the Leafs have drafted 7 defensemen in the 16 total picks the Leafs have made in that time. So he clearly has been drafting defensemen, maybe it’s possible that it just takes time for most defensemen to develop and mature
