So you have Hogberg who is alright, you have Gustavsson who is promising and projects to be an NHL goalie and now you have Matt Murray... Why trade Brassard for Gustavsson? and do you honestly think Murray will do well behind Ottawa's defense. I don't think so, I predict Murray will be way over paid Gruden will turn into a decent play in Pittsburgh and this will leave Ottawa with once again egg on their faces.

Matt Murray is not the guy he looked like when he entered the league. He's so wildly inconsistent year after year.

If they're able to sign him to a short-term extension (3 years), I think its a win.

I still think the goalie of the future is somewhere in the system.

Also, don't mind losing Gruden or a mid 2nd.

If Murray can bounce back Sens win big. If not then Pittsburgh wins...

Pittsburgh was handcuffed and were forced to trade him due to cap concerns.

I guess it's a fair deal. Sens got plenty of middle 6 lefthanded wingers and they picked 3 players yesterday so they aren't giving up anything that valuable to them. Murray is very inconsistent, but he'll probably be a good 1B goalie with a good playoff history

But to be honest, I think this trade will look bad this year. Murray is inconsistent and the OTT defense isn't that good right now. But in a few years with a top 4 like
Chabot - JBD
Sanderson - Thomson
And some decent 3rd pairing prospects as well, I think it will look good for Ottawa in a couple of years when they'll try to be competitive

lets see the contract he signs with OTT.
Honestly, If it's a low contract they should have just kept him. Worried about it next year with Seattle.
They didn't need to move him and next season is suppose to be full of back to backs.

But I guess we'll see.
The prospect isn't bad, not great either though. The pick is ok. If they would have wrapped JJ into it I would have said whatever, but they didn't.

I think Ottawa got away with under paying here but I'm not a believer in Murray.

The Pens managed to somehow get a 2nd round pick for the guy. Bit of an overpay by OTT in my opinion.

The better move was getting rid of a $5 mill bottom 6 forward and getting a 3rd pairing dman to replace jack johnson

Decent return for Murray.

I'd say it's a pretty good return for Murray considering the injury history and honestly, that's the only reason I would be hesitant to trade for him.

I remember a lot of Ottawa fans in particularly complaining about armchair GM trades to Ottawa, most of which were for 2nd round picks.

Give a chance here. Nilsson is out for a while and you would have too hard a time convincing any of the UFA goalies to sign in OTT. Murray is overrated and had a down year, but you have the cap room and the draft capitol to make this chance move. Immediately this makes for a better goalie tandem than Anderson-Hogberg. If nothing else, it's a stopgap until the roster develops to where a bigger UFA will WANT to sign here.

I agree, it's not a steep price. And maybe he does turn out to be awesome. By all accounts he's an awesome guy off the ice. It's his contract I'm scared of and the inevitable IR spot he will be taking up
