Schmidt out Petro In

Created by: OlegP
Team: 2020-21 Vegas Golden Knights
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 7, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Vegas has a lot of things in the fire supposedly with guys like Glass, Schmidt, Marchy, Martinez, Smith, Pacioretty all available.
I wouldn't hate Schmidt leaving, BIG contract! With retained money he becomes more palatable. If they can somehow move him for some low cost assets like Lehks.
Schmidt for that left handed defenceman they've searching to play with Weber.
That will able Montreal to drop Chiarot down to play with Romanov.

Glass looks to be on the outs and Krebs is coming into the lineup at some point.
Vegas is in a short window and do not want to trade any their expensive forwards in a market that cant take on salary.
Vegas desperately needs a right shot D. Schmidt playing on his off side didn't work in the playoffs them recently though he had experience doing it there on the right.
Cale Fleury is that right shot D that is coveted and cheap. Lekh's low AAV is an asset in this landscape.
This one of the scenarios where they can fit Petro and dump Fleury. It will take cap dumps

Glass is NOT available unless Stamkos, Barkov or Eichel are in the conversation .

Schmidt will not be moved for that terrible offer.

Jets trade MA Fleury at half retained for a 2nd round pick.

Jets end up getting Glass as a cheaper center than Lowry. Fleury cap hit replaces cap hit of Lowry. Virtual same money but you have a 2nd round pick and Glass to show for it.

That weaponizes the Jets cap space as Little goes LTIR

Calm your horses. This is fantasy. The dollars make sense.

This was from the Knights podcast that Glass could be moved as a sweetener to dump Fleury at no retained money.
Stop overatting your own prospects. Vegas has shown a willingness to trade them. Brannstrom, Suzuki, etc. They are all in for a Cup as Foley has made his mission at 75 years of age

Just fits Bergevin narrative. Puck mover to play with Weber. This is more a mock trade proposal than what I think is Lehkonen value. Look at what Bergevin just paid for Anderson. You would have said same thing about Domi yesterday.

If anybody is stupid enough to give Pietrangelo 9M x 7, they will seriously regret it in 3-4 years.

Look at Vegas history. They DO NOT CARE. They are all in for a cup.

If anyone here can tell how this Vegas team isn’t a much better team with this lineup. I’ll take that criticism, but don’t tell Vegas since their first trade deadline has NOT been all in without even entertaining the idea of futures.

Tatar trade shall we revisit that one for 3 picks? They have overpaid to WIN

I think Winnipeg is all for taking a cap dump or two for some prospects in positions of need. I thought they'd want to keep Glass but it sounds like you're higher on Krebs than Glass.

Winnipeg gladly takes either player as Glass is from Winnipeg and Krebs plays for the Winnipeg Ice in the WHL so both have links to the city already.

Kaeden Korczak is the other prospect I'd be very interested in.

Even with these moves you're still over the cap by $1.5M with only a 20 player roster so you're going to need to dump more salary.

I was thinking we'd take Martinez and Stastney for Krebs and Korczak and then you trade Fleury with retention to wherever you want and the Jets stay out of it. You play Glass at 2C. You have space for Peitrangelo and can ice an entire team.

Yeah too many ppl are ignoring Winnipeg’s potential as Fleury Landing spot with no move that hinders it but not in a 3 waY deal.

I really did not want to work that hard to fit out the final cap space when you have Vegas and Mtl fans both hating the deal thinking their being robbed.
I work way less hard at these ACGMs than I used to. Took me 5 minutes after hearing the Glass rumours. It’s not worth it. The one guy saying it’s terrible lol ignored he was getting Pietrangelo as a replacement for Schmidt. So terrible haha
It’s even in the title yet he’s that ignorant. Not worth my time.

This was me trying to get discussion going in a flat cap world. Again it fails lol

It wouldn’t be too hard to dump Holden and fit some ELCs. The big money is taken care of.

The value is definitely there. Roy is already an upgrade from Lekh's. We don't need Schmidt but i'm sure we can move him to Calgary for a pick and Bennett adding more tenacity to our lineup.

For sure, Schmidt has value. Contract is steep though. It’s a fascinating scenario as GMs don’t even know what they value more RN, cap space or actual NHL’rs
I’ve heard Tampa is looking for a 1st rounder for TJ per LeBrun but teams expect to receive a 1st rounder in order to take the contract.

Bergevin will have cap space after moving Domi. He needs to get creative and weaponize it.
I think a lot of GMs are thinking it but on the other side of the coin, cap teams with no space are just praying for a miracle til their leverage reaches zero which could be Friday. As most work will be done til camp starts.

Even so. A good use of cap space by Montreal if they can finesse a trade similar to this. Schmidt at 5.250m would be a decent piece as other teams would have interest but definitely couldn't fit him at the original cap hit.
