Not a bad deal for a 3C that can move up the lineup when needed. Hopefully for Vegas his production over this contract is closer to his regular season run with them more than how he played in the playoffs.
At least Sunny is a C, this dude is best suited as winger and most likely a 4th liner IMO.
Stephenson spent most of his time in Vegas at C, and played well while on the 2nd, & 3rd line. If his true self is his regular season with Vegas, then it's a good deal.
Issue is teams are demanding a 1st and 2nd + half retention per reports. Is Vegas willing to do that.
1+2 doesn't involve retention on Vegas' part, it's retention on the three way deal partner's part. If it did Vegas would just buy him out, as that would not only save them a 1+2, but also save cap hit.

A buyout means you're paying at least 2 million for 4 seasons instead of 2.

His season high is 11 goals- hasnt gotten past that since junior. For such a small sample size on a team with cap issues- this is an overpay. I dont see much upside to him, a good 4th liner- but hes paid way too much for that. Roy has more potential (younger and bigger) not to mention Nosek- whom they may not resign.
When youre roster if filled with $5mil + contracts- you need value on your bottom 2 lines and bottom pairing defense, this isnt it.
