The "long term outlook" tab on this suggests he'd still be a RFA at the end of that reported two-year term.

...yeah, I tested it and it claims he's an RFA after a 6-year extension as well. That's an error in Armchair GM.

Any player who meets the following requirements becomes an unrestricted free agent (UFA):

Is 27 years of age on June 30 of the contract expiry year

= Domi case

unfortunate that they couldn't get a long-term deal, however it makes a Hab fan feel better assuming Anderson is locked up reasonably

not sure if it's on Domi not liking CBJ's outlook (no reason not to) or what

I understand not taking a risk on Domi tho. If he wants 6m for 5 years, I think it's safer to go for 5m 2 years

He meets both qualifications 7 years and 27 years old.

We do have Texier and Foudy waiting in the wings, so I'm presuming it's a risk mitigation thing - Domi bets on himself and a big payday once the flat cap is done, and we make sure that he really will be a fit with Torts and don't have to go with an expensive buyout option if he's not.

I think this was more a preference of Columbus than anything. If you look ahead, Foudy, Jones, Werenski, Korpi, and Elvis all are due up in 2 years as well. Also factor in Bjorkstand, Texier, and the forthcoming PLD and Gavrikov extensions and that's basically the entire core that will need to be resigned/extended by the 2022 offseason. Based on what they did today, it seems like they see Domi as a 2 year rental until they have to pay for these core players. The plan is likely for Foudy to be the 2C of the future once Domi's contract is up, if not earlier. I disliked the trade at first cause I thought it was gonna cripple the team with future signings, but I really like the term here.
