He will not be in the NHL. He will be in the AHL where player devolment can work with him.

Kings don't trade for cancer. Perhaps you don't know your former player very well.

You know what is cancer? Having the worst player development in the NHL like the Rangers. Enjoy that...

It's actually confirmed that he will play all of this coming season in Sweden. After that, I suspect he will be in the NHL since he will no longer be waiver exempt in 2021-22.

Then we shouldn't have gave up a 2nd for him.. If he can't get hands on work with player development then I have little faith he turns out to be anything more than the dud he currently is.

Mike Futa gave a good interview on NHL radio about the trade. He said that Andersson is the hardest working player he's ever seen, and that the Kings were actually considering taking him at #11 over Vilardi, but didn't get the chance when NY took him at #7. He said that players that get a second chance like this often do well because they know it's their last shot, and that the packed LA pipeline will only help to promote competition. He said that there's a very good chance that Andersson works out for LA and end up in the Kings top six.

As for his reason for leaving, he apparently was dealing with some mental health issues, and NY management apparently didn't handle it very well:

Lias Andersson sheds more light on leaving but still won’t say if he will play for the Rangers again

Here's a translated interview from a Swedish newspaper from before the trade:

Quote:
can you say anything about what happened in Rangers?

- I will not go into details of what has happened. But there are things that have happened and there are things that have not made me feel good as a person. It's not that I'm dissatisfied with my hockey or anything, but I've been disturbed on a personal level. That is probably what has happened, I will go into more detail in the future.

- It's not a promise that has been broken, it's things that just happened that made me very uncomfortable and stuff like that.

- Unfortunately I can not say anything, I have gag from the agents. So I have to keep quiet.

"Very proud to have made the choice"
- I knew I would be suspended. As a hockey player, it would have been best to play hockey, but I put my well-being and my health above it. I am also a bit slightly injured and have to be at home and take care of it.

Do you regret any of the choices you have made?

- Absolutely not. I am very proud that I have done them, and I think most people will agree when they find out what has happened.

Do you have contact with any player in the team?

- I just talked to Mika (Zibanejad), I called and gave some tips. We talked a lot, he is the one I have the best contact with. I lived with him over there, he's like my brother, he's taken care of me.
