Edmonton has very limited cap space, so they need to be careful and avoid adding additional AAV unless it absolutely improves their team. The Oilers might be able to bring back Ennis, or an unsigned RFA like Duclair, for less than the $1,350,000 difference between Chiasson and Dzingle cap hits. Those kinds of options could be less expensive and just as effective as Dzingle.

If Dzingel was a good 3C option, the numbers would make sense. But he isn't.

From a fan perspective sure, from a market perspective that is the ask.

The goaltending is better but expensive, why would we acquire both guys? The team is still a one line team, we have enough depth 3rd and 4th line guys so I don’t see the point of those 3 additions

TD loves buying picks. Arizona wants a first and second for Kuemper, Tom D just bought it with a little extra money. Much like the Skjei deal. Why not get the asset, even if it’s close to redundant, with an asset you paid cash for?

Paquette adds a little nasty to the third line. The 4th line can be more if a scoring threat.

I mean you can’t be relying on your 4th line to score. The canes second line needs to be addressed well before they try and make the fourth line better. I’m ok with paquette but the rest doesn’t make much sense to me. I’d take the money from one of the goalies and chiasson, and koivu and put it towards a 2nd line winger.
