Until I saw NSH buy out two players yesterday, I didn’t know that was possible. I wonder if the isles go that route, I thought you could only buyout 1 player.

I'm sure Lou has tried placing so many of these overpaid contracts on LTIR. I'm glad the league is finally putting a stop to Lou's cheating

I think you may just be thinking of the "compliance buyouts" of the past.

You can have a max of 3 normal buyouts I believe

Don't panic yet, most teams haven't made the moves they'd like at this point, mostly due to wondering what additional UFAs will be made available after the RFA Qualifing window has closed - teams now have a full view of the landscape and we should see a plethora of moves over the next few days

Buyout window closes today, I wouldn’t be surprised if clutter is bought out

My darkhorse candidate is Leddy. Saves $4.25M right away. Far from perfect but if Lou needs to open space that might be his option

I had no idea how much money we would save by buying out Leddy, wuld be nice to trade him but once Olli Maatta was delt to LA and WPG signed their guy for a 3M per I was not super confident anymore

I don’t know if this means much but ladd and boychuk are coaching the Jr islanders right now. Praying that boychuk retires.

Twitter lol - after seeing Niskanen leave 5.75 mill on the table , I wouldn’t be surprised if boychuk does the same thing. He was already paid his 4 mill signing bonus in July and he’s only due 1.25 mill the rest of this season. He’s already made of glass and he turns 37 soon, I wonder if he has it in him to play another 2 years .

I’m honestly surprised this isn’t a bigger topic the dudes been through some absolutely brutal injuries the last few years guy must really love the game cause he doesn’t have as much of a reason to stay around anymore

Boychuk - I actually like him, his cap can be absorbed, his actual salary isn't horrible, but there's no way Ottawa is going to pay that $2.75MM signing bonus next spring.
Sang - He's going to be 25 in January, when the season might start, maybe, and has a grand total of 53 NHL games. Can we call him a bust now?
1st round pick - I like this

It's not a horrible deal, just not a realistic deal since it's Ottawa. Find a team in a larger market (than Ottawa) with lots of cap space, maybe NJ or Col.

Been panicking since Cirelli scored in OT. I don't think we're finding a taker for Leddy, I say buy him out, save $4.25 million this year, maybe do the same with Clutterbuck and get almost $2 million. Replace them with Aho and Koivula/Bardreau, respectively. I think Komarov is movable if you tie a prospect to him (Bellows maybe) and get something minor back. Hopefully that should be enough to bring back the RFAs. If not, I think you have to think about trading Bailey or maybe even Varlamov. If Ladd is on LTIR, you're saved but I'm not convinced that will happen. I think Boychuk gets moved next offseason after his bonus has been paid, that contract could be really appealing as a high cap hit, low real money acquisition to a team. As a result, we'll probably be fine with Beau, Pelech and Sorokin when they're up, but that's another story

If boychuk was owed 3-5 mill this season, that’s more than enough incentive to keep going - but 1.25 mill? Hopefully it gives him a reason to retire

Honestly, I feel like Ho-Sang would be a nice addition for a team that would give him a bloody chance. No idea why we gave him a QO lol, there's no way they give him a shot at the roster

He's got the $2.75 million signing bonus next year too, though, not a bad incentive to keep going....

it depends. He’s on TSN trade bait list and I know he built a house on LI a few years ago - does he want to pick up and move his family or retire and take a job with the isles. I guess we’ll find out lol

I think if he were going to retire we’d have some sort of indication of it could be a niskanen scenario as well but I just don’t see it happening at this point
