Kakko was my answer too. It would have to be a young high-end prospect that is Expansion Draft exempt. Necas also has the ability to become a Center which carries more value. I know Kakko is a non-starter, however I don't see anyone else on NYR that would make any sense for CAR.

Idk why it would have to be expansion protected, you only have 5 forwards that even meet criteria to be protected. Figured it could be centered around buch. He does have the ability but his face offs to date have been really bad. It’s a slight gamble for the rangers to give up assets for him. Trading kakko now is essentially like trading Svechnikov before this past year.

They should’ve waited to make that trade until they were sure their guy was there. Still don’t know how lias was ranked over necas

1. I'm still not convinced we don't go 4-4-1. Protecting Svech, Aho, TT, Staal (NMC) - Slavin, Hamilton, Pesce, Fleury/Skjei/Bean - Goalie. Depends on what happens with Hamilton and if one of the defenders forces our hand as a must-keep player. Either way it is better to have options when the time comes. Swapping Necas for Buch means we could lose Necas and Buch for nothing.

2. Necas > Buch.

Svech is exempt. And that’s still tbd, they performed at a similar pace, necas is just younger hence more valuable. I was never saying a straight swap, I just said a deal around buch.
