Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 8, 2020
Published: Oct. 8, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If possible try to offload Russell to replace him with a more offensive option, but this is a secondary need. Bouchard should be given a shot on PP1, playing sheltered minutes otherwise. Pure offensive use.

Try Pulju with McD and Nuge, but he should also work well on line 3 with a speedster and Mikko as a finish mentor. Kass can go up to make space for Nuge and McD.

Conceivable stats in my opinion (on 82 game basis, which is unlikely, I admit):

Nuge: 27-40-67 McD: 45-65-120 Pulju: 13-25-38
Kahun:17-31- 48 Drai: 52-60-112 Yam: 26-40-66
Nygard: 9-16-25 Koivu: 7-23-30 Kass: 16-16-32
Neal: 16-11-27 (pp time goals) Khaira: 8-10-18 Archie: 11-11-22

Nurse: 11-40-51 Bear: 4-25-29
Jones: 5-15-20 Larsson: 2-13-15
Russell: 1-9-10 Bouchard: 6-20-26

I like it. I hope Jesse works out, could solve a lot of problems... Although I’m thinking it might still take some time for him to work his way up to the top line. Potential right shot weapon on the pp is exciting too. Signing Koivu makes a lot of sense for mentorship.

I like this as is. Not really big on moving russell issue being klef being out we need that defensive mindset.

Makes sense. I think Russell could be good with Bouch, as Russell's main issue is controlling play. Bouch is set to do that. Russell covers him when he makes jumps up.

All hinges on Jones being okay upping his playing time by about 3 mins, but I think he is ready. If not, adjustments can be made in season.

I agree. I’ve been beating the russell bouch pairing drum for awhile. Just seems like a smart vet to help him out.

What if you could get Duclair instead of Kahun? I love the idea of Duclair and McDavid together.

Would do the same contract. I know Kahun and Drai have played together internationally, so also a good fit. Either and I'd be happy. I guess I'm just worried Duclair is a little similar to AA which didn't work that great (in a small snapshot).

We hate Koskinen at $4.5M, imagine how much we will hate Koskinen 2.0 at $6M.

I understand their reg season stats were similar last year, but that is a small part of the story. Markstrom was a decent starting goalie the 2 years before that too, and fantastic this playoffs. Koski was pretty bad his first year, and bad this playoffs. They are not the same.

And Vancouver is happy to let him walk. Something smells a bit fishy here... 2.85GAA in the playoffs with a 0.919 SV seems eerily similar to Koskinen this season.

I'm sure Van is trying hard to keep him, but they have to let some good players walk, and I think his price tag is the highest. Also, Koski was 3.19 and .889 in his 4 playoff games.
