Would rather target Leddy and probably for cheaper than help Vegas out. If Peg is taking on almost 11M, Vegas better be adding a big plus.
No thanks from Winnipeg

The way I see it is it's more of a 4D chess move letting Vegas give into their impulses and clear their depth in order to sign a 30 year old Dman at the start of their decline. I don't see Vegas being a better team long term when Pietro inevitably has the same fate as Erik Karlsson and Doughty, sharp decline right after signing a massive contract

I think it's close, but yeah..add something else for the jets to take that much cash.
I wouldnt want Leddy over Martinez tbh. A one year vet dman is the perfect fit for the jets with Heinola and Samberg coming up.

Would still rather trade out east than help Vegas. Leddy would be had much cheaper and I still think is better than Martinez. 2 years of Leddy let’s Samberg and Heinola ease in with some sheltered minutes.
I like Stasny but he will be more than 2 years older than when we had him for our run. He’s expensive and I would rather try Roslo/Harkins or Copp at 2C.
Cap space is the new asset and anyone wanting to move 11M, especially to sign a big UFA is going to need to pony up a serious add. I fully expect teams like Peg, COL, Det and Ottawa to try and fleece some teams this off season.

You're right. It's a lot of cap to take in, but I do think Stastny still has something to give. Watching him during the bubble play he looked good, but then you look at the score sheet and see a lot of zeros. I just like the idea of rekindling the chemistry with Laine and Ehlers...im a little nostalgic like that.

And after this season it basically costs Winnipeg nothing. They get their deadline adds to compete this year, a little early, and then they're back to having a young team with cap space.

Nostalgia or trying to recreate something from years ago is an easy way to lose cap space and assets. I would hate to give up a pick or coat controlled player/ELC in “hopes” that we can repeat what worked 2 years ago, and have it fall flat. If Vegas needs to move salary to try and sign a big name UFA, make them pay to move him.

Exactly how much do you think Comrie and Niku are worth, here? smile
