Fowler Trade After Ducks scouting

Created by: Rlneu1
Team: 2016-17 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 17, 2016
Published: Oct. 17, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rangers Asst. GM Chris Drury and Player Personnel Manager Gordie Clark at the Ducks game Oct. 16th. Neither side can give up much on salary.

Lindberg and McIlrath are both young cost-controlled assets that have yet to hit their ceiling - Lindberg being a big bottom 6 center and McIlrath having the possibility to become a solid defensive defenseman.

Normally you could get more for Fowler - but the Ducks are losing leverage by the day every time Lindholm isn't in the line up. This opens another 2.5 million to that cause.

If the Ducks think Lindberg can be an NHLer, and maybe the Ducks have the choice of either Skjei or Mcllrath, then I think the trade is fair. From a Ranger view if they protect three Dman in the expansion draft, is Fowler even on that list?

I'm biased but Lindberg was a really solid player last year (13G/15A in 69GP) and got kind of caught up in the "AV hates rookies" trope , so I think he's ready to improve on those stats. If we got Fowler, we would probably buy out Girardi at the end of this season in order to not have to protect him.

No, the 3 Dmen have to be McDonagh, Staal and Girardi as per their NMC's/necessity. A pre-expansion-draft buyout for Girardi remains likely though.

I'm thinking Staal and Girardi might waive there NMCs for draft purposes. I really doubt Las Vegas would want them, as they can spend that type of money on better UFAs. Obviously McDonough is a lock then the Rangers will have three guys....Holden, Klein and Fowler (if the trade goes through) with just one year left their contracts. Maybe the Rangers have a young player or two with more term they would rather protect.
Not only the Rangers but there are a lot of teams who hope guys will waive their NMCs, so they can in effect "protect" more players.

I'll say it right now... not big on Fowler and he's a LHD and not that good on his Right side.

Need to stop trading D back to Anaheim they don't need one so McIlrath is a no go for them, And besides the Rangers are set at LD they need RD like Trouba or Shattenkirk even more.

Agree, Anaheim doesn't need D back. Perhaps Lindberg, another cheap forward or prospect, and 2nd rounder as a precursor to flipping Fowler and McIlrath for Trouba.

Agree, they need the RD more than the LD.

Other option is go after Vatanen.
