Insanity. With his history of injuries, he shouldnt be getting more than 4 years, and its not like hes cheap either.
best case scenario: he turns into a good powerforward getting 25-30 goals a year....for the next 7 years....and then its a good contract.
so many ways this can backfire.

While I didn't like the trade for Montreal when it happened, I thought they were at least saving more cap space than CBJ as I thought Anderson would be cheaper ... now, though: grimace

Domi would've gotten more longer term.

Thats an a atrocius contract.

To me, this guy is a third liner at best and i dont know why would you give that money AND term. Im not even telling that he might have a lot of injuries in the future.

Columbus definetly won the Domi trae after this one.

As a Leafs fan I don't expect you to understand, but Regular season points mean literally nothing. A Cup winning team does more than produce offense.

I’ve got nothing against the Habs. This Anderson deal is bad. For the Habs sake I hope it pans out. I have my doubts though.

Seriously, calm down people. Anderson and Nylander are both good players, there’s no need to argue.

He has NEVER cracked 50 points, let alone 75.

This is one of the worst gambles any GM could make. Imagine how Gallagher and Danault feel after this.

Gallagher + Danault + Tatar should all feel like Bergevin owes them 7 year extensions with a $7,000,000+ cap-hits.
This is especially true when you realize that they've all carried Montreal for years while on hometown discounts.

Their career stats are miles above Anderson, and Gallagher + Danault clearly provide grit and intangibles as well.
To be honest, Joel Armia is almost a perfect comparable for Josh Anderson if you look at stats, play style and age.
Also of note is that Lehkonen + Huden are much more comparable to Anderson than he is to Gallagher + Danault.

All of the below Montreal forwards are free agents either this summer or next.
Most will be disappointed when they aren't offered the 7 year stranger special.
Especially since Josh Anderson's production slots right in the middle of the list.

CAREER SCORING AVERAGES (PER 82 GAMES):

26 goals - 24 assists - 50 points = UFA (2021) = Brendan Gallagher (28)
24 goals - 26 assists - 50 points = UFA (2021) = Thomas Tatar (29)
12 goals - 30 assists - 42 points = UFA (2021) = Phillip Danault (27)
19 goals - 15 assists - 34 points = RFA (2020) = Josh Anderson (26)
16 goals - 16 assists - 32 points = UFA (2021) = Joel Armia (27)
16 goals - 16 assists - 32 points = RFA (2021) = Arturi Lehkonen (25)
14 goals - 16 assists - 30 points = RFA (2021) = Jespi Kotkaniemi (20)
10 goals - 18 assists - 28 points = RFA (2020) = Charles Hudon (26)

There will be an exile of homegrown talent next summer.
Directly caused by the disrespect Bergevin just showed.
Or Montreal will be $20,000,000 over the cap, we'll see.
You heard it here first.

BTW that Buffalo logo is my favorite ever. I got the original game sweater 2 days after the draft where they unveiled it as my birthday gift. Super neat.

They should had stick to it instead of switching for the purple **** stain. Shame.

Cheers, good ole day logo. I like the jersey as well. I am probably one of the most hard core sabres fan who still doesn't have any merch, no jerseys nothing...Im gonna have to invest soon maybe

I can look at the trades MB has made and how they have improved the team. For the previous few seasons we've been retooling so I didn't expect to make the playoffs. With these moves and the future being here, next year is a playoff year. If we miss, it will be a disappointing season.

I expect that teams have to take steps back in order to take steps forward, you can't be a playoff threat every year in your existence.

My honest opinion is that next year is the only year that matters for Montreal in the near future.

They'll lose too many free agents next summer as they can no longer afford to re-sign them all.

Kotkaniemi
Gallagher
Danault
Tatar
Armia
Lehkonen
Hudon

Will all need extensions, with these guys hogging all the money:

$10,500,000 = Price
- $8,000,000 = Weber
- $6,200,000 = Petry
- $5,500,000 = Drouin
- $5,500,000 = Anderson
- $3,500,000 = Edmundson
- $3,500,000 = Chiarot
- $3,500,000 = Byron
- $2,000,000 = Kulak
- $2,000,000 = Alzner (BO)

$50,200,000 for 9 players with only $31,300,000 left for the other 14.
And that 14 includes 6 of your 8 best forwards and 4 of your best 5.

I don't see how Bergevin gets anything close to that done.

I'm inclined to disagree regarding Anderson - I think he can be a really solid top 6 power forward that actually uses his physicality funtionally.

With that said - this will never be a value signing. Best case he's worth the money, worst case it's a terrible deal. He has no comparables for this type of contract, and signing him to say a 3.5m x 5 deal comes with a bunch of upside, while on this deal he's just expected to reach his potential.

Of course it doesn't mean we make the playoffs, but he is expected to put up 45 points so it will help. Also the Atlantic is pretty weak at the time so it shouldn't be much of a problem.

This is a massive gamble. This is big money and likely not a good deal if it's a UFA. Andersen is a middle 6 winger, and a solid one, but he's offensively limited, solid defensively and hits. He's a bigger nastier Paul Byron.

This is one of those deals that people will likely argue about for the first few years, as Andersen will likely be good, but probably overpaid. Where this deal gets ugly is that players like Anderson, especially ones with injury history, tend to fall of a cliff in their 30's, and he's signed until after his 34th birthday. Also, this team really doesn't feel like it should be all in like this for a 3-4 year window, but they now have a lot of money tied up to guys who could be in massive decline in a few years. I know they already had Price and Weber, but deciding to keep Petry, and now signing Anderson can mean this team has about $30M committed to a foursome of players who may have trouble contributing to a winning team. It feels like Bergevin figures this team is either a contender, or it's not his problem since he won't be there when it all goes bad.

Two years into this 7 x 5.5m deal and it's looking more and more like a steal by the day given the massive returns Habs fans trade this guy for in AGM.
This might be Bergevin's best signing ever.

Most here are usually wrong to be fair. See every TDL thread from 2022. Quoting the majority here isnt any less that quoting a twitter poll. Just massive cope and bias.

Here before his scoring ticks up once Dvorak gets back and Newhook is moved off his line.

If anyone actually watches the games and not the Jfresh player cards (95% Mark Friedman my personal favorite)
Josh has been an absolute monster this year. Unicorn player. All over the ice creating chances. What a fun player!

I guess 1 point in 7 games is equal to 5.5 million... His analytics aren't very good and he isn't an intimidator either and he doesn't preform in the playoffs

But I do appreciate the ability to ignore stats and the eye test and call him great though
