Description
So these are my takeaways from the moves that have happened from Draft day.

I think after the Leafs drafted Amirov, Johnsson is as good as gone. Leafs analyst Kevin Pappetti stated that Amirov is a fast forechecking forward who is defensively responsible and obviously has good skill. He expects him to be NHL ready as early as next season and putting him on a line with Mikheyev could be dangerous.

I’m also really disappointed that DeMelo signed for only 3 Million in Winnipeg. For me, he was Toronto’s number 1 target. Another good option still available is Gudas, while Cernak and Weegar are possibilities via trade. However, I think they will go after Pietrangelo now and the only way to make it work is if Marner takes a fair deal which I’m not sure he’d be willing to do.

Well, there was a report from Pierre Lebrun that said Pietrangelo wanted a 6-7 year deal in the 50-60 million dollar range to sign in Toronto so that’s what I gave him.

Pure speculation, anything else would be considered tampering

You can't just change Marner's contract.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m not sure Hamonic is good enough for a top 4 role in Toronto. His stats are pretty good & he’s gonna want 4-5 Million. My primary target was DeMelo, he signed in Winnipeg. Gudas has been pretty good historically. Could trade for Cernak or Weegar.

I would've loved to pick up demelo as well, imo they should've got him at the dead line this year. Cernak or Weegar are good options too, but that comes at the cost of some sort of asset.

Lehtonen is better than Dermott for sure.

I don't see a way to keep Dermott around.

They are contenders but lots of question marks with Liljegren / Rosen / Amirov / Engvall all being expected to play playoff minutes with no experience.
One big injury to Marner/Matthews/Tavares/Andersen could de-rail them

Taking away the obvious concerns (the non-reality of Marner's contract adjustment, the fact that Petro is probably going to VGK, Soupman is going to make more than 1.5, etc), I think this is much closer to a SCF contending team.

The Leafs can Terminate his current deal and make him sign a new one, but the obvious concern would be Marner’s camp doesn’t agree. Although it would be nice cuz it helps the team win.

We haven’t seen Lehtonen or Barabanov in NHL action yet so usually I don’t put them on my main roster. I don’t doubt that they’ll be blue chips, we just don’t know yet.

As for Dermott, his stats and on ice results playing a third pair role have been really good. I think your issue with him is that he makes the big mistake like a turnover or missed coverage but for the most part, he‘s been fine. It will be hard to keep him cuz of the logjam at LD, but I’m always open to the idea of putting him on a pair with Muzzin while he takes a prove it deal like DeAngelo.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the talent is there on paper for this team to make a deep run. Maybe not the deepest team and there’ll be questions about whether or not Dermott a top 4 role, overall they are stacked enough.

Lehtonen shows that he is ready to step into a top 4 role in the NHL.

And for Barabanov, expect a Komarov type of player and not a Panarin. He is not the tallest, but stands on his skates very well, low centre of gravity and has a very good motor. works hard. Don't expect anything more than a bottom 6 forward, but I think he can be a very good 4th liner

Thanks for the insight. Seems like Dubas picked up 2 excellent players.
