So Columbus trades 2 NHL defensemen for pretty much nothing today. But in doing so they clear $7.35 million in cap space. Plus another $4 million with the Wennberg buyout. The Blue Jackets are absolutely going for some big names in free agency. I’d assume Hall, plus someone else. Right now this is a bad deal for the Blue Jackets on paper, but that could change depending on who they sign.

And great deal for the Devils, getting a good defenseman for next to nothing.

What is Jarmo doing? CBJ must be under strict financial constraints this year cause he is having a firesale. Murray may be a disappointing 2nd ovr pick but he is a good dman. Wtf

Shedding More cap big moves coming ? Great trade for New Jersey they get a Dman with some potential though he is injury prone and at the same price as Erik Gudbaranson who is significantly worse

I have to imagine that other trade partners wanted CBJ to retain salary and the Devils are willing to accept it all. Otherwise, was a 5th round pick really the market for him?

apparently they are in on Hall so kind of makes sense

I don't think people are honest on the cost to move a player right now.
Murray is always injured. I think it's a solid move. 4.6 million off the books.
He wasn't a top 4 defense man in CBJ. That's a lot for a bottom pairing guy.

After the move this morning I thought Murray was safe. It was one or the other... never saw both. This organization is expecting big things for Gavrikov, Kukan, Carlsson and Peeke I guess. Gavrikov solidified himself into Murray's spot this playoffs. The others will fill out the bottom pair.

CBJ just shed $4.6 million for a guy who can't stay healthy routinely misses at least 25% of the season.....and it only cost them a 5th rounder.
