Grab Tatar

Created by: KingsLover
Team: 2020-21 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 9, 2020
Published: Oct. 9, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If this team makes the playoffs depending on how the goaltending holds up and if the defence plays to the level we know they can, especially with depth from adding quality players like Stecher and a vet in Kulikov.
Tatar adds good scoring and playmaking to the top 6 with Duchene. Jarnkrok is the guy I think should play with them, as he has skill and scoring talent, and alongside those two he can score at a 40+ point pace.
The top line should be Forsberg, Johansen and Arvidsson together. They were great in the play in, and if Arvidsson and Johansen can bounce back from a rough year they could all go back to their usual 60-70 paces.
Grimaldi, Wennberg and Kunin I think form a good solid scoring line, while they won't be anything special on the defensive end. Wennberg is a good playmaker and can be a 40 point pace 3rd line C. While Grimaldi and Kunin both have good goal-scoring abilities and can be fringe 20 goal guys.

The defence is the bread and butter for the club. Josi and Ellis forms arguably the best top pair in the league. Josi Imo is the 2nd best D-man in the league.
Ekholm and Fabbro are very solid but Fabbro needs to take that next step, and Ekholm needs to be more 2019 self than 2020.

Trades
NSH
  1. Tatar, Tomas
Additional Details:
The Preds get what they were hoping to have got with Granlund. Beside Duchene I think they can form a great pairing to help that 2nd line for the club.
MTL
  1. Afanasyev, Egor
  2. 2021 1st round pick (NSH)
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (NSH)
Additional Details:
*2022 3rd turns to 2nd if Tatar resigns with Nashville
Afanasyev is a solid prospect who could be a solid 3rd line forward in the next 2-3 years for the Habs.
They get a 1st which is the starting point to what they want for Tatar, and it frees up cap space for the club to get another top 6 winger in FA.

Is it too much? I thought it could be a slight overpay. Maybe just a conditional 3rd for if he resigns.

It’s not a question of too much, it’s fair value and MTL only accept if they are out at the TDL. They won’t do that this summer

Very true, definitely they'll be a team in the hunt with the revamped d and goaltending. With the young guys like Suzuki and Kotkaniemi being the 2 and 3 at centre it would make sense. I just thought with all the rumours about Tatar being on the block that they'd be down for this package.

Depends on whether mtl aims to get another lw thru FA. They’re looking to upgrade their LW not lose one for pieces that don’t help them immediately. I like this package but only if we land Someone like Hall

If you take out Afanasyev and make the 1st lottery protected it's probably fair value, but not an advisable trade for NSH.

I mean teams are trying to purge cap right now and there are only a few buyers. Columbus just gave up two decent dmen for basically nothing. I doubt it cost near this if Montreal is trying to move cap.

It contradicts the direction Poile says NSH is going. He says he's focused on a retool and giving younger guys a chance. Giving up next year's first and one of very few decent prospects to add another aging player to a bubble roster doesn't make much sense. I know Tatar is capable of 25/25 and we need more scoring on the wing, but these trades/signings prevent promoting the players (Tolvanen, Pitlick, Tomasino, Davies, Carrier) he's specifically mentioned.

Imagine if Hall finally signs with MTL instead of Nashville or other teams, and then MTL trades Tatar to Nashville to stay undercap
