How did Mete sign this? He’s already played 171 NHL games on his ELC, and he’s been a solid defenseman for the habs. Sure he’s not a top pairing defenseman, but I’d expect him to get more than $735 K. Charles Hudon of all people signed for more money than that last year.

Great deal for the habs, and Mete gets a year to prove that he can be a top 4 defenseman.

Excellent signing, was expecting 500k-1M more. Probably opted out of a 1-1.5M contract for 2/3 years in favor of a one year deal to try and prove himself, given the strong defensive pipeline we have rn.

Very surprised he signed this low so quickly...my prediction was 1.4m/2 years.

He'll get arbitration at the end of this contract. Montreal gets a competent defender for basically nothing and kicks the can down the road to when hopefully more money is available to actually pay him.

Pretty good.

I'm shocked he agreed to sign this. After the terrible Anderson deal, this is a steal.

Half what I expected. But he had no arbitration rights so...

Hopefully Seattle see him as a good deal wink

Having arbitration next year is very inciting, especially if he performs better than Chariot and Edmundson. That's an easy 3.5 million your agent can argue.

Im suprised by the amount of money he signed for. I was expecting 1M for 2years. This gives Mete a reason to probe himself for his next contract and gives flexibility to MTL

I think he thinks he can double or triple his career goal count and add 20 assists through 80 and I think he can get 3.5

Walks Mete straight to arbitration. Montreal saves money this season but will probably be paying more for him in the future.

That is all true but Bergevin just pushed another free agent into next years crop:

Kotkaniemi
Gallagher
Danault
Tatar
Armia
Lehkonen
Weal
Mete
Juulsen
Poehling
Backup-G

Most of the veteran core could be lost to free agency if young guys earn moderate raises.
Especially since all the vets will now be expecting the 7-year Josh Anderson special.
