Kubalik came out of nowhere (or seemed like? Maybe Chicago fans have will have been hearing about him for longer), so a bridge deal makes sense for both sides, and less than 4M for guy coming off a 30 goal season seems like a great deal. Getting a 2nd year is also very nice for both sides, since if Kubalik proves himself, that 2nd year becomes a massive value (either as a trade or on the roster) and he's still an RFA at the end of it.
