Kyle Dubas can finally brag he has a black player on his team.

Ok I guess but there are better players available for the same price tag

Reasonable enough. Not an overpay nor a steal. Still, not exactly optimal imo.

I like it similar to the perry deal

Quoting: Laudan
I hope he took "playing as RH defender" lessons over the summer for that AAV. Would rather bring Clifford for that money tho....

Liking it alot

fair value IMO. Worst case Ontario he is a 4th liner with no impact who is a good locker room guy

Quoting: mondo
I hope he does well here but I am fairly disappointed in this signing.

Quoting: kllnhookrs
Its a tad rich, but it fills a need for the Leafs 4th line. He isn't a goon either. Can contribute offensively and could see him jumping up in the lineup at times.

Quoting: kaljakori
Clifford is gonna get more money and that would cost 31 spots in the draft. I think Simmonds is less effective, but it's just better asset management.

Quoting: Trickster
I too would have rather had Clifford.

Quoting: mondo
Montreal was offering more than this. Little bit shocked by that considering how this season went for him.

Quoting: Laudan
Ryan and Maroon are making this one worse and worse......

Good deal.

I think Simmonds can definitely be more productive than he was last year:

36 points (58 games) = Nico Hischier
32 points (60 games) = Jesper Bratt
24 points (61 games) = Wayne Simmonds
21 points (61 games) = Jack Hughes
18 points (68 games) = PK Subban

There was something up with that whole team, everyone seemed to have a down year.

Maybe Toronto will be able to not disappear comes the playoffs this year. Contract's too rich for my blood, happy Montreal didn't get him at this tag.

24 points = Simmonds = $1,500,000 x 1 year
04 points = J.Anderson = $5,500,000 x 7 years = 6-8 buyout years at a higher cap hit than Simmonds

No worries though, we won't mention the Alzner buyout yesterday (What did it cost again? Triple Wayne Simmonds this year? Too rich?).

Also, Carey Price.

Anybody signing Simmonds is instantly losing. He's been awful for the past 2-3 years.

You reek of the realization that Montreal just signed a 4 point player to a 7 year $40,000,000 contract.

Bringing Montreal into the deal means nothing in this conversation. Simmonds has been bad for 3 years now and Toronto fans will realize that quickly.

It's all good I brought Bergevin to protect me.

He's great at taking care of people from other organizations.

So is he like $1,000,000 bad?
Or is he like $40,000,000 bad?

Imagine trying to justify a ****ty signing by talking about the Habs. Your team lost in the play-in round and got worse. Keep trying to justify having Dubass as your GM.

Don't lose your time, @drewjenkins ' just another one of those salty LeafsNation guy that can't admit they won't win a cup with 4 guys ramping over 40M$ leaving them with 12.57$ to spend on defensive help.

BTW Jenkins my comment was about how 1.5M$ dollar could've been used better than on a declining 4th liner. You guys can go ahead and keep wasting roster spots/money on hometown boys if you feel like it I couldn't care less. Montreal offered more money so I think it's a good thing he declined our offer.

All of Toronto's moves get more thumbs up because the majority of the fans are homers. You just have to accept it.

Yep. It's funny that you mention all these signings yet your team hasn't made it past the first round in a decade. Imagine having a team that bad. LMAO

It's not a good signing. Simmonds had been a pylon for 3 years and shows no signs of returning to his prime. Maybe factors like playing for his hometown might rejuvenate his career, but it's unlikely.

Rookie mistake from Bergevin, nobody's hitting for 1.000 in the professionals so I don't understand your fixation on that? The fanbase (Real fans) acknowledged it and it's in the past and forgotten let's move on.

They're the only ones who want to play in Toronto. Everyone else needs a lot of money to go there.

Ooouuu Habs fan going in! Kapanen to Simmonds is quite a downgrade. Understand they need grit but it's offsetting the Clifford loss. No cap to fix that D.

A no-brainer signing for the Leafs who need SIZE, Strength and Muscle up front and in the dirty areas. One year at this cap hit is nothing hard to manage. Smart move.

Love Dubas as a GM. The team has struggled in the playoffs, but what an amazing team to watch.
Sorry man. You might want Leafs fans to feel bad, but most of us feel pretty great about whats to come

Unfortunate having a fun team doesn't make you good. I genuinely enjoy watching the Leafs play because they play a beautiful kind of hockey, but that doesn't make them good.
