Reasonable enough. Not an overpay nor a steal. Still, not exactly optimal imo.

I hope he took "playing as RH defender" lessons over the summer for that AAV......

Would rather bring Clifford for that money tho....

Anybody signing Simmonds is instantly losing. He's been awful for the past 2-3 years. Hopefully he can rejuvenate his career in Toronto.

Well maybe Toronto will be able to not disappear comes the playoffs this year. Contract's too rich for my blood, happy Montreal didn't get him at this tag.

Is this the famous UFA signature made after freeing capspace with the Kapanen trade? wink

fair value IMO.Hopefully with the extended time off he can recover from injuries and have a bounce back year. Worst case Ontario he is a 4th liner with no impact who is a good locker room guy

Its a tad rich, but it fills a need for the Leafs 4th line. He isn't a goon either. Can contribute offensively and could see him jumping up in the lineup at times.

Clifford is gonna get more money and that would cost 31 spots in the draft.

I think Simmonds is less effective, but it's just better asset management.

Oh yeah they probably are, but he would still be more expensive. I'd say Clifford gets at least 2m for 3 years with a small NTC. I'd rather have Simmonds for 1x1.5.

Montreal was offering more than this. Little bit shocked by that considering how this season went for him.

I like the term which obviously you will pay a higher AAV for. I like that we didn't give up our 2nd signing Clifford to a short term deal.

I don't like the NMC. That means he can't be buried or traded if he performs poorly (a very real possibility).

This is an OK stab, he needs to rebound a bit to be considered good value, but on a one year deal it's not like we will be talking about how the Leafs would have been a contender if they didn't sign that Simmonds deal. Maroon is far better value, but he probably doesn't sign a deal like that for anyone who isn't Tampa.
