This is exactly why I thought Murray becoming a UFA was a possibility. Arbitration doesnt care about the goalie market being soft. Its an aggregation of past contracts and accomplishments...not just the contracts PIT fans wanted to recognize. I'm not surprised by the amount. I'm surprised OTT knowingly gave a 2nd when they could have sent less.
Ottawa spending money comes once in a blue moon so enjoy fans.
Other contracts with 5.5M$ or more coming from Ottawa since 2016: Thomas Chabot 2019 and Mark Stone 2018 (Traded) .... That's it and that's how they spend their 2020 money this time!? LOL
EDIT: Maybe the Sens just created themselves a contract to get to the cap floor? 3D Chess game.
Well the votes say it's not a good deal/contract. I happen to like the contract. He still has lots of upside for being a two time Stanley Cup winner. Brings much needed experience to the Senators line up. Now they just need to sign another defensmen or two to help play defense in front of him.
The exception in this scenario is that Ottawa is still well beneath the floor, with few players likely demanding large paydays in the near future. It’s not favourable, but Ottawa almost needed to overpay in a way.
