He's been terrible for the past few years and should be paid like a Backup. Thankfully Ottawa can afford it, but YIKES

This is exactly why I thought Murray becoming a UFA was a possibility. Arbitration doesnt care about the goalie market being soft. Its an aggregation of past contracts and accomplishments...not just the contracts PIT fans wanted to recognize. I'm not surprised by the amount. I'm surprised OTT knowingly gave a 2nd when they could have sent less.

Yeah, there's no way that Pittsburgh was going to be able to afford that.

Could be an albatross. Huge risk.

Plus they actually paid a 2nd to have his rights...

Voting no

Honestly think this was a good signing, I think Murray will be able to put up the numbers he's capable of on the Sens.

Lines up with the rumored ask of 7M/year and not wanting to take 5M in Chicago

It is what it is, they can afford it. Better term than I expected

He would have made at least 4.5M in arbitration

Not sure on this. Got multiple reports of 5x5.
TSN is reporting 5x5 for example

Talbot signed for 3mil and Holtby for 4 million. I wasn't expecting Murray to sign for more than 5 mil.

You deserve it Murray, I don't care what anyone else says! We will miss you in Pittsburgh!

But yeah no way Penguins would have been able to give him this, so makes sense for trading him.

I'm not super comfortable with the deal, but it's not going to really hurt too badly. Hopefully he can bounce back.

Who actually thought a 2-time Stanley Cup starting goalie would get low balled?

Ottawa spending money comes once in a blue moon so enjoy fans.
Other contracts with 5.5M$ or more coming from Ottawa since 2016: Thomas Chabot 2019 and Mark Stone 2018 (Traded) .... That's it and that's how they spend their 2020 money this time!? LOL

EDIT: Maybe the Sens just created themselves a contract to get to the cap floor? 3D Chess game.

Murray has never put up the numbers that warrant this contract. Now he goes to a basement team with no defense. I wish him luck.

Well the votes say it's not a good deal/contract. I happen to like the contract. He still has lots of upside for being a two time Stanley Cup winner. Brings much needed experience to the Senators line up. Now they just need to sign another defensmen or two to help play defense in front of him.

The exception in this scenario is that Ottawa is still well beneath the floor, with few players likely demanding large paydays in the near future. It’s not favourable, but Ottawa almost needed to overpay in a way.

Yeah I also saw 5x5M.

That would make much more sense.
