He's been terrible for the past few years and should be paid like a Backup. Thankfully Ottawa can afford it, but YIKES

The sens just jumped the shark again. Good lord.

This is exactly why I thought Murray becoming a UFA was a possibility. Arbitration doesnt care about the goalie market being soft. Its an aggregation of past contracts and accomplishments...not just the contracts PIT fans wanted to recognize. I'm not surprised by the amount. I'm surprised OTT knowingly gave a 2nd when they could have sent less.

Wow. Uhh. 898 save percentage.

The majority of posters here think the Holby contract is a steal for Vancouver and this deal is terrible. Do you guys even look at the stats?

I said the Holtby deal is reasonable, not that great.

Way to generalize things, asshat.

Sens don't sign players: "They're cheap."

Sens Sign players: "WTF? Huge overpayment. What are they doing?"

I actually like this signing.

I dont think Holtbys deal is great, I think hes washed up. But I dont really get the comparison since Murray is being paid about 2M more per year with 2 more years of term. Both are bad imo

Who is voting yes?... this deal is horrible...

If he bounces to a 0.920 save percentage it's still not good value.

I didn't say either deal was good OR bad. Just talking about the arbitration process and trade. He was never getting the $4M nonsense PIT fans thought.

I’m surprised at the amount, but you have to pay for a shorter term. I’m much happier it’s only 4 years. They also paid a bit for his age, and resume. I think all goalies are crapshoots, but it isn’t $10MM like that other goalie fans were freaking over not earning his pay check. I’ll miss Anderson, it’s Murray time in Ottawa.

BTW, this contract expires when one or both of the new draft picks will be coming off their ELC.

I like the structure, lower cash during these lean years, higher cash when there’s higher revenue from anticipated success.

Why wouldn't Ottawa just take Mark-Andre Fleury at $7,000,000 x 2 years + a free 2nd round pick instead of paying for Murray?

This is a ludicrous contract.

Ottawa is looking for a playoff spot this season, but wants to seriously compete next season, and MAF will be facing UFA, at age 37, during the playoffs of 21/22. Murray will be 27/28 during the 21/22 NHL playoffs, with 2 years left on his contract. That’s the Senators window, and they have their goalie, instead of searching for one, internally or through trade/FA after the first 2 years.

Regardless of this deal, MAF would have been a terrible choice for Ottawa.

He would have saved you the entire trade package and given you an extra 2nd round pick for free.

And he would have been off the books when all your ELC are due big raises.

Ottawa is not competing for anything in the next 2-3 years.
