He won't report to Syracuse and his contract will be terminated. Similar to how we got Bogosian.

He'll still get $3ish million in a new situation plus the chance to still play professional hockey.

Or he shows up and calls out TBL on their bluff...the TBL buys him out. TBL can't sign their guys day 1. Hes going to win this game of chicken. It only saves $1M

I disagree. I think we have 3 loyal RFAs similar to Point. JBB will win this game.

I also believe he's on waivers because someone said to our GM they wanted Johnson. Rumors were teams were calling about him, but his trade list was only 7-8 teams. He'll be off our books tomorrow.

Oh that might be true. Different story. Someone else might claim him. I just thought this was if no one did. Hes not a bad player.

He'll report, or else he'll lose 20m. Even sending waiving him saves minimal caplmoney. 1.075m per year...then you have to a replacement player for lets say 7.75m. so the cap saving is 300,000 per year.

Gotcha. Still zero chance he reports to Syracuse if you ask me.

Will never happen. Just like Santa Clause isn't coming down the chimney in a few months. GMs simply don't submarine other GMs. I half think Bergevin did that offer sheet as a favour to Don Waddell last year.

The American hockey league is still professional hockey. He would just report, and tampa wouldn’t want to waste 4 million in the minors.

They wouldn't waste one of the 12 starting forward spots on him.

Look at that Laval Rocket roster last year. Was pretty funny to see Alzner and Dale Weise making over 8 million playing in the minors most of the year

Good and versatile. I dont understand why ppl think he isnt a legit top9 NHL player. And he can play all over the lineup. Coaches adore players like him

The Lightning have to be careful though, because if Tyler Johnson complains to the league and they investigate and find they planned this and they circumvented his contract, they could block the trade or just take away draft picks from the Lightning for cap circumvention.

Loyalty or not, theyre professionals, and if they get hurt in 2 years and never recover, they just lost millions of dollars. That's a future for them and their family. They aren't going to take a cheapo deal just to help out the mismanagement of their bosses. Turning down $30mil for $13.5 million is just stupid, and no agent will tell their client to do that.

I think people really overvalue things like loyalty, character and "intangibles" These guys are all alpha personalities that are not common among the public. If a team does turn them away, they take it VERY VERY personally. They will not make it easy on the team.

Yes this has NHLPA grievance written all over it. they could make him a UFA, he gets his money and Tampa's penalty is the cap hit dead for next 4 yrs.
