Lightning don't win the cup without Shattenkirk. He can't carry a defense but he is a great compliment player. I think next to Lindholm he's a perfect fit. Great signing Anaheim

Drysdale is j gonna end up being a better version of him lol. I think it would’ve been better if they went for a defensive minded RHD

I'm really confused. I understanding trading away Guddy because he really isn't that great, but shouldn't the ducks try to get younger? Seems odd to sign a 31 year old for 4 years when your team really isn't that great. No problems at all with shatty, just seems a bit strange

I feel the same way. But our org wants to compete next year and Im okay with this signing. As I feel its reasonable and can actually help. Worst case depending on injury/play we can trade or just deal with it.

how much is NY still paying him?

Honestly don't like. Think he reverts. He was a turn over machine in STL. He stunk it up bad in NY. He wasn't good for WSH.
I mean really. ANA ain't exactly got the kind of help TB had.

But that's just me.

We exchange Gudbranson for Shattenkirk. As much as I like Gudbranson, Shatty is an upgrade.

The Ducks just traded away Gudbranson at 4 million and now signed Shatty at 3.9. How is this NOT a win? It is a great move by the Ducks and now that they have drafted the top skating D man in the past draft this works out so good for his development. I like what the Ducks are slowly doing.

I guess if they have the room then it doesn’t matter, but this feels like an overpay. Shattenkirk has some pretty good offense but his defense is downright awful and he had several bad turnovers that resulted in crucial goals against in ECF and SCF games. $3.9m seems like a lot for a guy who really needs to be sheltered (Anaheim probably can’t do that as well as Tampa) and plays a one-way game that generates ~0.5 points per game. Plenty of guys get 40 points per season and are in this salary range despite being more solid defensively.

IneffectiveMath’s charts looked like he was exactly average offensively, slightly below average defensively, but shines on the PP. I would think a PP specialist would be worth less, but I guess Anaheim isn’t using the space anyway and he’ll help them if played correctly, it’s good. It’s also possible that being a Tampa fan skews my understanding of overpays since for us at this point it’s an overpay if anyone is making more than $1m.
