Total liability in his own end and fallen off a cliff offensively, maybe that's why? He isn't the same player he was in the Pens cup runs.

If he was as bad as you morons have described, no team would sign him...

My thoughts exactly. They've already got Carlson, Orlov and Jensen for the right side.

They go from making a great move in signing Lundqvist to this...I don't get it either. Still got Siegenthaler to resign so you have 7D?

Woah there buddy, no need to get personal about this kind of stuff. But I can read analytics and production numbers too. Opinions are opinions man, no need to be so hostile.

Not really...

He's only played one season of more than 63 games played in the last 5 years. When healthy, he's worth it. But the odds are he'll miss at least 25 games next season.

Worst contract today so far, for a two-year deal I wouldn’t have given him more than 2.25

orlov is on the left. The site lists him as a RD but hes really a LD. He can play right but his strong side is his left

Orlov is left-handed.

But still a weird move, Schultz is a puck mover and that's not what they need. I thought they'd sign Gudas type player

Alright, at least that makes sense.

My next question is why are they paying for another right-handed OFD?

Can I vote fair? It’s too early to tell if it’s good or bad. Schultz was stuck playing with JJ all year and he was coming off to terrible leg injuries. Of capitals can get the Schultz for the back 2 back it’s a great signing. If not it’s a bad one. Too early to tell atm it’s creative but risky.

He was paired with JJ last year and coming off 2 bad leg injuries... hard to tell what player you are going to get. Too early to tell if it’s good or bad. Lav is a great defense coach so I imagine that can’t hurt, right?

Too early to tell. It’s definitely one of the most risky signings today but it’s just careless to ignore his success and only focus on 1 bad year of hockey.

I mean that's fair, but leg injuries can linger a looooong time. Who knows how much of his top form he's regained.

I don’t disagree. I think it’s a risky move but idk what the market was and bringing in a guy who is a winner and can move the puck well isn’t a terrible idea. IMO it’s too early to tell. If he can play like he did during those cup runs this is a steal if not he’s an overpaid 3rd pairing for for 2 years .... gotta take risks

The Caps don't need a puck mover? They sure will now that Dillon is in our top 4. Kempny is gone and Jensen is very weak and can't handle a forecheck. Puck moving is exactly what I felt we DID need. Schultz looks above average in entry%. A RHD was needed, so this makes sense. Just a little more AAV than I'd like.

Actually... Just realized that the Caps are going to have to trade a mid to high $ guy to even field a full team.

This is a good signing and I will tell you why: Washington's window is 2-3 seasons. After that the aging curve will be catching up with the entire roster (as of today average age is 30). They just added Lavy who is an offense-first coach and loves dmen to push things forwards/take risks in the o-zone. Shultz, if healthy, could be a huge boost to the team's immediate chances.

High risk, high reward for a team that needs to push all-in to have a chance at a second cup before the Ovechkin era ends (to all of our loss).

Orlov is not a Right Handed Defender, was playing on his off side

People on here will be thoroughly convinced that a player is terrible forever after one bad season and most of them don't understand all the variables that can go into a struggling year. A lot of flash judgement and mindless criticism digging up oddball advanced stats that seven people actually care about and then hordes of people who can't think for themselves just follow it forever until that player has a decent comeback year then all is forgotten. Welcome to Cap Friendly.
