Description
Having dealt with injuries and being paired with *He who shall not be named*, who signed with the rangers today (hint hint), People need to wait to judge this signing until he plays and may finally be healthy again when he helped Pittsburgh win two cups. People need to calm down because rarely does GMBM put a foot wrong. This is a gamble but with a new coach in Laviolette too, I have faith that he will be better in a good system.

I think this team can win the cup. They’ll probably trade one of Hagelin/Panik now. And go after a Palmieri type at the deadline as well.

Honestly idk why people don't like it. Even if he does crash and burn its only a 2 year contract

I hope they move Jensen bc I like siegs and Fehevary better... or Hags. I really like Panik and he had a great finish to the season

Yeah, all that is true and can be true. But why that much per year. And if that much per year, why did the capitals need to give 2 years?

Could Alexeyev be ready? I’d love if they acquired Palmieri at the deadline and pushed Oshie to the 3rd line

A lot of penguins fans are chirping this deal but they traded Horny for Matheson who makes more money and IMO way worse

Alexeyev needs to cook for 1 more year. He’s playing top pairing minutes in the KHL right now but needs to work on a few things before he’s ready. Fehevary is the better player btw. I rate him slightly better than Alexeyev and he’s NHL ready. Capitals management wouldn’t let him play during the break bc they wanted him rested for the season. I’m extremely high on him.

I guarantee you Pittsburgh is in a worse spot. 2 years for Schultz is very safe. Worst case he gets moved next summer with 1 year left if it doesn’t work out. Gudbranson was moved

He was rated the 6th worst contract in the NHL last year.

Looks like we'll be losing Dillion to Seattle next Spring. Alexeyev then gets a spot on the roster, and Siegs moves to 1LD. Might be the plan.

So come 2021 it'll look like:

Sieg-Carl
Orlov-Schultz
Alexeyev/Martin-Martin/Jensen

Something like that.

It’s easy to over react to this signing but Schultz is a solid puck moving d man that has won 2 cups. 2 years isn’t a huge risk. I’m not happy and I’m not mad. It’s a good calculated risk

I assume the trade Orlov for picks and keep Dillion. Caps pay Seattle a 2nd to take Oshie

I agree. I’m just hoping Kuznetsov and Orlov have bounce back seasons and they should be ok

Agreed, the expansion draft is going to make sure we probably lose one defenseman ideally

I think they'd not mind them taking Oshie, but I can't see them giving up a high draft pick to make it happen.

Kuzy will. He had too long of a leash w TR. Orlov IMO was great. He plays great when he has a offensive D partner like Nisk

I’m wondering if instead of Schultz they could’ve traded a late pick for 1 year of Goligoski

Maybe. I think they really like Schultz. More I think about it the more he reminds me of Nisk who Orlov was amazing with.

I would think the Caps weren't the only team in on him or they could have just lowballed the money and term?

Yeah that was a weird situation. Sounds like they are going after Laine so idk if they care to replace him. Maybe Braun or whatever was their solution

Right, so then don't sign him.
