GMJR is somehow being patient for the first time in his life

Created by: Pens3lieve
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 9, 2020
Published: Oct. 9, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
note-I'm putting ZAR in the lineup bc the season might start late enough for him to be ready.
some minor depth signings to start but I know GMJR has to have something else up his sleeve. supposedly there was an offer to Simon (IDK if it's still available) but I almost hope he's not back just because I don't want Erod, Simon, Sceviour, Lafferty, McCann, and Jankowski to be my third line. the 3rd line for me needs to have a little offense and defense. Tampa had a great third line. depth that contributes and grinds with speed, skill, hitting, and grit is key.

We all wanted Pens to up grade at 3rd line & at 3rd RHD spot & I wanted a 1B Upgrade (bc of the compacted season & how big it will be to have a 1B)

BUT

The Pens actually got worse on the 3rd line, didn't upgrade RHD spot, & the only season we "Need" 2 goalies we have an AHL back-up Now??

IMO - This is now a fringe playoff team that if there is 1-injury to 87, 71, 58, or 35 for longer than 3-weeks === No way this team makes playoffs.

~ This looks like when the Pens went with McKegg / Sheahan at 3C -- So this means GMJR will make a huge trade for a 3C at deadline instead of fixing the obvious problem now????

Man I have given up trying to upgrade the 3RD spot with how awful that 3rd line is. They can play Maniscalco. Hell nothing they can put out there next season can be any worse than JJ and Schultz.

I made 2 attempts at this. Maybe we should just stop thinking about 3C. Screw it, we got 1 guy who can take a face off. Oh well. Got Vesey McCann, Fast on the 3rd line.
It would be fast, gritty, and have some offensive chops.

Or grab Thornton to be 4C let Blueger be 3C, and grab Fast.

I don't know. What I do know is whatever the hell he's trying to do ain't it.

I think we are also hamstrung by Marino needing a contract. So everything has to be a 1 year deal.

What do you think?
Who can the Pens afford to get still in FA?

I like the lineup but I would keep McCann & swap Fast with Kapanen. Haula was really good in 2018/19 but terrible last season, don’t know if it’s worth the risk to bet on him. A good option for 3C is Johan Larsson. Very responsible defensively and has good playmaking. Have a 3rd Line of McCann-Larsson-Fast, all 3 guys are defensively responsible and hardworking on the forecheck. You wouldn’t have room for Kahun though.

normally I'm not too keen on signing free agents, but it seems like there are really good short term deals to be had, why not take a shot
