Good contract if he keeps his form from last year since that was about his only good year

Good low AAV, but the term is terrible. Colorado has the cap space so why not spend now to save later.

Projections had him at long term for this AAV. He'll be a young UFA in 2 years and still touch a good amount of money for those two years.

A bit expensive but he was in good position for arbitration though, COL didnt want to end up there

Bad term, but it's hilarious that his AAV is smaller than Domi's and Anderson's.

AAV is fine, but a 4 year term would have been much better

I voted no. Not because of the AAV or term. I hate the expiry status - the two-year deal leads him straight to free agency...

Actually, this deal buys out one UFA year. He could've been a UFA next off-season. So overall, not a bad contract.

I like that they signed him but the structure of the contract is not favorable. Good signing for two years BUT then it's not good.

This isn't quite like the Domi deal. Burakovsky actually could've taken a 1 year deal and then go to UFA because of his years of service. This buys the Avs an extra year.

I like this deal. Burakovsky played a season where he looked like a 30 goal, 60 point winger. But it's one shortened season. Going longer term on that type of production could be an issue when this team does have some big contracts to contend with in a flat cap world over the next 3 years. Instead, they pay him a below market rate for what he did last year, and don't end up committing long term in the event he doesn't live up to it. This deal feels like the type of deal that happens in the NBA.

In a salary cap league, people spend far more time being worried about potentially having a player walk away for nothing despite the fact that cap space and flexibility have value. If you always give players big term, sometimes those contracts turn out to be a negative value and you wish you could walk away for nothing.

Burakovsky is not a core piece to this team, so avoiding longer terms is probably a good move. If he performs well, then you get two years of a player drastically out performing his cap hit. If he performs decently, then you aren't hurting that bad in his next negotiation, and if he performs poorly you dodge a bullet. You commit to a core of stars, and everyone else is interchangeable as the need arises.

Good for the Avs not taking to much term IMO.

I think really should have locked him up considering how well he did in Colorado, but just in case he regresses to something similar like his last 2 years with Washington I guess 2 years is a good call.

There is a chance he’s expendable in two years, but I didn’t think the Avs had any major players in the system that would be ready and pushing for Burakovsky’s top 6 minutes by then.

Overall you’ve kept him for 2 years at a fair cap hit, good signing.

All things considered, this isn't necessarily a bad deal for the Avs. It sounds like Bura wanted to stay longer but I think there is a logic to having a guy that only had one good year on a short contract. And this is a contending team that is going to need to control the cap in the upcoming years to re-sign their home-grown guys to big deals. I might have asked for one more year at a lower AAV but that would have been it.

Because later they're going to have to give MacKinnon a $6 or $7 million raise

This guy had 1 career year and you handed him 4.9 million.
The past 3 years he's been a 12 goal guy.

I wouldn't be complaining about the term.
If anything I think this is a bit high avv.

I love the AAV but I don't like the term this will lead him right to free agency. However I like that they are bringing him back it would have been nice if they added 1/2 more years

He is with a good team and he should put up good numbers. This is a player that will thrive with better teammates as he's not a one man show type of guy. A bit high on the money but two years is fine.

You’re Wrong Bud. His AAV is fine. He’s been getting progressively better and a top 6 or 9 role. In COL. His numbers were low in Washington because he was rarely given a chance or PP time.

you paid him based on his career high. you are seriously trying to argue that is ever a right move?
