IMO that means Bouchard's not playing NHL minutes next year because... you know, Holland

Gets #1PP on the best powerplay in the league. After he gets his stats boosted he's gonna go in for a big raise the next year.

Buys Bouchard some time. I love this deal for 1 year and he'd be playing third line minutes on 5 on 5 for us.

Nurse - Bear
Jones - Larsson
Russell - Barrie

Why does bouch need more time? I think when your named an ahl all star that kinda earns a legit opportunity. Don’t give Bouchard the experience this year then have him and broberg coming in at the same time. Hardly think we are 2+ years from broberg cracking the line up.

You poor things. Enjoy Mr. Turnovers

You guys just added to your winger depth, because god knows he can't play defence.

I think the idea is to replace Klefbom minutes with another proven PP guy. Once Klefbom gets put on LTIR the Barrie signing is just lateral. We would still have room to sign a goalie(if there's anyone available) or even trade for a goalie. And sign another depth D or land another top 9 forward like Kahun. Holland also said he doesn't want to give young players a spot, they have to win it. Bouchard could still come in during training camp and take a spot. The left side is still wide open. I could see him Barrie or Bouch moving to either side to make it work, if he does in fact win a job.

Because we have Jones/Bear who are just starting their careers and we can't afford to add another 2 young guys and not know what to do. Adding Barrie at least offsets Klefbom's minutes. Bouchard still needs to learn to play defence at the pro level and the NHL is not a developmental league.

Does the top pp in the league really need to be addressed with options like bear on the team? I think if anything added to blueline adding a defensive guy to soak up some tough minutes would be preferred. I love everything holland has done but this I think will prove to be his only fault but costly one.

Well I question Barrie being any better defensively than bouch. Time will tell I’m saying this was a mistake

I think the same thing and I think your right, we have players who have some seriously solid potential. But neither Bouchard or Bear have proven they can be NHL top PP. With Barrie being a vet guy who instantly because EDMs number 1 offensive D he can help those other guys learn that role. And when he signs somewhere else next year either of them could step after that guidance. Both are still pretty young and have time to really prove they can handle those minutes and the pressure that comes with them and being on a legit NHL top Pp

I have zero doubt Barrie will be great on our pp but with limited cap to work with that’s not really direction I would have gone. Klef defensive play is what I think the team will be missing most adding someone who can break up plays 5-5.

I agree. I think Caleb Jones has that potential, he's quick. I think that's the job he should try and win.
