Hjalmarsson's cap hit is $5 million. Johnsson's cap hit plus the retention here is $5.9 million. So why would the cash-strapped and cap-close Coyotes do this?

They are also riding themselves of the hossa contract, saving them about 2M

How do you figure? Even if it's entirely uninsured, Hossa is only owed $1 million this year.
