Just some ideas

Created by: Jded
Team: 2016-17 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 20, 2016
Published: Oct. 20, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Out:
Vatanen
Fowler
Bernier
1st rd pick
Stoner's contract

In:
Trouba
Tatar
Athanasiou
3rd rd pick
Zatkoff

As unlikely as all this is, here's my rationale:
I love Vats, but I see him as a sell-high opportunity right now, and will be priced similarly to Trouba in contract terms, who complements Lindholm much better. Additionally, a lot of upcoming Dmen play a similar game to Vats (I'm looking at you Theo and Montour), but nobody like Troubs. This could also be an avenue to dump Stoner's contract, which is an absolute necessity at this point.
The Bernier trade would be simply to reduce cap further
Fowler to BOS is to address the gross lack of talent in the Ducks top 9.
This would put a heavy workload on Lind and Troubs until Despres comes back (if ever), but if he can return to form, the ducks could finally play decent hockey again - if their old school coach doesn't hold them back.

Tatar & Athanasiou is an overpayment for a guy you want to get rid of. Tatar has one year left on his contract and does Anthanasiou. Makes no sense for both teams.

    Both are RFAs.

Detroit's not doing Tatar+Athanasiou for Fowler that's massive overpayment Tatar+2nd rounder is more then fair for Fowler.

Contractually going forward that's a very good point. I guess in my eyes Athanasiou would still have an affordable contract, and Tatar would be an RFA so his value would still remain, where the Ducks could trade his rights for another FWD if unable to afford him. However with the expansion draft looming, odds are some cap will be cleared for him.
And in terms of Fowler's value I don't understand your argument. The Ducks don't WANT to trade Fowler, they just happen to have a plethora of defensive talent, and a lack thereof at FWD. I'd argue he's been one of the Duck's best players so far this season (all 4 games of it). I'd say let's trade Bieksa or Despres for FWD talent, but they aren't worth enough to net any kind of a return.

I'll admit I'm likely somewhat ignorant of Athanasiou's value, but I would've thought his worth was very similar to that of a 2nd round pick (he was drafted round 4), and I know DET isn't a fan of trading draft picks, and that they need the salary exchange to be somewhat similar..
