As a Kings fan, I’m curious. What do you think his realistic ceiling is?

Kings shouldn’t, Dubas and Blake have been good partners so far. That being said the I’m surprised they haven’t started talks with him while they continue to get further into a cap crunch.

I'm pretty sure now that he's filed for arbitration he can't be offer sheeted

There's no more moves to be made with Toronto and LA.

Regardless, an offersheet would essentially sever the good relation Blake and Dubas seem to have, not that Toronto wouldn’t match anyways.

Realistically that AAV probably has to be 3M+ for Toronto to not match.

Deangelo strome and mihkeyev are all going to arbitration so i don't think they are offersheet options anymore

You're allowed to be $10 million over the cap during the offseason. Toronto would definitely want to keep him. They can figure out later how to get under the cap

From what I understand MIkheyev really likes it in Toronto and has a good relationship with Dubas. For him to accept an offer sheet, the Kings would have to overpay. Something like 4 years at $4M.

@Jamiepo thoughts on Mikheyev?

Mikheyev I think show short bursts of his ceiling. He is an older rookie obviously. See him as a 40-50 point two way player. Good decisions nice hands.

Blake and dubas have a good relationship so I don’t see this as realusyic. An offersheet like this would certainly handcuff the leafs a bit. Dubas values Mikheyev as both a player and a person so I think he matches and moves Johnsson.

On the other side of the coin I don’t think Mikheyev signs it. I think what dubas did for Mikheyev has earned his loyalty.

I don't see how they can match anything over 1.5M.

As @Jamiepo mentioned above, the relationship Dubas and Mikheyev have likely points to him signing a lower-than-expected AAV. Johnsson and Holl are probably out the door here, so that opens more than enough cap for him. The 10% offseason cushion is really going to help Toronto.

Leafs are banking on Arbitration for Ilya - he has a 39 game sample size an arbitrator would award a 1 year 1 - 1.5 deal

Points wise probably 40 point winger. He has great speed and good offensive awareness

Leafs will opt for 2 year term. Could see Mikheyev getting anywhere from 875k-2m. I would say your figure is fairly accurate.

Its quite simple they match and move on from one of four players johnsson kerfoot Holl or Dermott I think it would likely be Holl as mikheyevs camp was shooting for a reported 1.8 mill so the arbitration is from the leafs trying to bring it down closer to what they want even though they would absolutely pay him the 1.8 if they didn't have to play hard ball. I personally believe this will be the last season of the core 4 due to the new contracts needed for hyman and Freddie next season and Rielly the following so if they have to make a small sacrifice this season (johnsson) to keep mikheyev until they free up even more cap space for a longer deal for him next year then they do it at all costs

they match and sell low on Johnsson and Kerfoot. Dubas has Patrick Lee who was one of the guys who helped make the cap and its rules. If any team knows how to maneuver the cap, its the leafs lul. Call it unfair but thats one of their outside Aces
