But like why trade assets for a face puncher? You know who is a free agent and won't be getting 1.5mil×3? Matt Martin. And he's better at it. I just hate this deal so much.

I agree. I hate the Gudbranson deal and I hate the Watson deal. Clifford and Martin were out there, we coulda resigned Sabourin, there are several guys in the minors I’m sure, and there are probably some guys you can get paid to take. It’s a waste to use 5.5mil cap space on Watson and Gudbranson when we could’ve acquired a 2nd for taking on Staal, or acquired 1 or 2 actual good players for free, because teams are giving them away (Murray and Nutivaara for Chlapik and a 5th woulda been 7.3mil for assets that will actually have higher positive value at the deadline, and are actually decent players in the meantime too). I initially hated the Brown deal because his comparable was Gudbranson, but then I was told no, he can actually defend a little and I was convinced it was okay. To follow that up by giving value for the guy I was scared of (Gudbranson) and a questionable off-ice character (Watson) is not the play for a young group like this, no matter how much they need defending or whatever (literally woulda preferred you get Zadorov for a couple higher picks than these two combined, and he’s a guy that can fight without being also bad at hockey).
