Regardless of whether or not Johnsson scores 20g or 5g next year it’s a win for the leafs. They just can’t afford to pay a 3rd line winger 3M+. Might as well move him for something.

I've been saying for a while now that Johnsson's value would not return much.

Every Leaf fan in the book chirped me repeatedly.

Not without signing both dermott/mikheyev we arnt. Right now we can run a 22 man roster with about 700k to spare.

Good trade imo. A solid middle six 40 point player for a young forward with a decent future. Good trade for both teams as Devils will likely need some wingers once they trade Palmeri and Gusev at the trade deadline next year and the Leafs clear cap and get a decent young player who can play 3rd and 4th line minutes

Meh, cap move. If that's the most you could get without retaining/taking cap back then I'm fine with it. I was optimistic for more but oh well...

No Mikheyev, Dermott or Anderson.

Probably the best deal they could find. No matter what Tor ACGM were saying Ottawa wasn't giving up 2 2nd rd picks, etc. Jim Rutherford was out of cap space and picks....

It's not all that terrible , Anderson is a couple years younger , Johnsson was gone regardless , He should help out NJ , this is what a cap move looks like

He was more F****D with a 19 player roster and an injury occurs prior to dumping Johnsson
